Christmas is the most exciting time of year when families gather For babies and newborns, safety is the name of the game. Since they don’t have a lot of gross motor control, focus on toys that are easy to grasp and maneuver. Toys recommended for children under the age of 3 must meet certain requirements that means they are not a choking hazard.
For babies aged 3-6 months, friendly advice is to wrap their presents in bright, shiny, crunch-when-you-crinkle-it wrapping paper for maximum impact. For babies aged 6-12 months, choose toys that encourage movement, whether it’s crawling, standing, or developing fine motor skills.

3. NogginStik Developmental Light-up Rattle – Best First Learning Toy
This rattle is designed to stimulate your baby’s sensory exploration skills. From its light-up head that changes colors, to its textured body, it’s perfect for laying the foundation for sensory development.
- Includes parent milestone guide
- Encourages sensory development
- Requires 3 batteries
- A bit pricey
I know that for many parents this rattle is awkwardly expensive. I mean, it’s a rattle! But, take a second look at the description and please reconsider, as this toy is the best baby Christmas gift, and especially if the baby is three months old.
From the three months of age, baby’s sensory development is starting and toys like this can be nothing else but help. SmartNoggin Light-up Rattle is awesome for hand-eye coordination and understanding that the light changes upon the rattle bumping something or if the rattle is shaking.
It is well designed and balanced that stays in the baby’s hands even if the baby at that certain stage doesn’t get grasping too well.
The headlights up and changes between red, green, and blue, and is pretty bright when used in the dark, but not so bright that it should bother the baby’s eyes. The rattle makes a nice happy sound, like slightly shaking a mostly empty box of tic tacs. The mirror is actually worthy of being called that, unlike many toys with cheap plastic mirrors. Lights change with tapping or shaking of the toy and there is no way to turn it off (light goes out on its own after sitting still for 30 seconds, but comes back on with slight movement, so battery life is not very long if the toy is sitting in the diaper bag).
4. Melissa & Doug – Whose Feet? – Best Soft Activity Book
The Whose Feet? Soft Activity Book is a crocodile-inspired educational book for children of all ages. The book features dangly feet, a funny story, and colorful artwork.

Babies enjoy chewing, grasping, listening to crinkling sounds, and others reading very simple story while toddlers love to invent their own stories based on the book and play with mixed up feet, over and over again. It’s easy to read, entertain and encourage infants to develop hand-eye coordination, motor skills, while their creativity is stimulated.
This squeaking, crinkling, foot-filled cloth book from Melissa & Doug K’s Kids is durably constructed to last through storytime, playtime, and the washing machine too!

Because every baby develops at their own pace, Puppy comes with Smart Stages technology, so you can choose the level that’s best for your child. There are a variety of songs, sounds and phrases within each of the three levels of play. And Puppy’s light-up, multicolour heart even twinkles along to the music!
Level 1 – Explore – Baby can press Puppy’s hands, foot, heart, nose or ear to hear first words, colours, the alphabet, parts of the body and more
At Level 2 – Encourage – In this level, fun phrases reward little ones as they’re encouraged to count along, find colours, and identify the parts of the body

10. WOW Sam the Steam Train – Best Baby Boy Christmas Gifts
Is there any parent on this planet unaware of WOW toys? They are unbreakable (literally, as they are super sturdy and can have very long play life), environmentally friendly and never ending fun as they have over 30 different playsets suitable for kids of all ages.
- Mold resistant and dishwasher safe
- Super durable toy with long playlife
Sam the Steam Train has a motorized engine with a realistic whistle and detachable passenger coach with an opening side and roof. When opened it reveals stairs from the platform into the coach. The coach’s cozy interior includes a table and chairs for passengers to sit in. Sam’s push down chimney gives a whistling sound to announce he is ready to start his journey!
In addition, as with all of WOW Toys, Sam The Steam Train requires no batteries ever … yep, you heard it right. No spending a fortune on powering them as they are powered by friction motors and even the sounds and noises are not battery operated! Now tell me that wouldn’t make you happy to find out you’re not expected to spend a small fortune on batteries during the lifetime of the toy.
The quality is superb – there are no rough edges and everything is really sturdy and durable (our previous toys still look as good as new, and I think we have like 7 or 8 toys for both kids). WOW Toys really encourage imaginative play as well as developing fine motor skills; they are also super to encourage two or more children to play together.
Even though the manufacturer stated the toys are 1+5 yrs, from my own experience, even 6 months old babies can have fun watching you pull the toy, press the chimney down for the noise, etc. WOW, Toys are BPA free, PVC free, don’t use toxic paint and, you don’t have to worry that additional figure that is inside of every toy to be a potential choking hazard – they are made with their thumbs up, to prevent accidental swallowing.
Here are my criteria for Idea baby Christmas gifts
Although gifts are not the most important, it is worth to think for a while about what you will put under the Christmas tree. Therefore don’t put off Christmas shopping to the last minute. Searching for the perfect Christmas gift for the baby is best to start early, even in November or early December. But, before you head out to stores, or start the online shopping adventure, you should have certain criteria to follow, that way you will find the best Christmas present for the baby in no time!
While preparing this text, and also while doing my own baby shopping, I was following these simple principles, and if you do that as well, you could save yourself some serious time (and bucks).
1. Great play value
Based on the age of the baby, toys must have a play value. Manufacturers state the suitable age on every package, but parents usually introduce toys a bit earlier than recommended on the box, so that the baby has enough time to get to know the toy and use it to the maximum. It’s no use to buy a ridiculously expensive gift that has no purpose for the baby or the baby overgrew that development stage. You can also look for a personalized gift for your baby.
2. A long play life
When buying a toy for a child under the age of 1, always take special care about the materials the toy was made of. Cloth book yes, but paper book no. Sturdy plastic toy yes, but certainly not the one with easily detachable small parts. Making sure
3. Educational and engaging
Educational toys play a key role in your child’s development because educational games contribute to good intellectual, social and motor development. The toys are designed to promote your child’s development. Quality educational toys are so clever that your child thinks it’s just a lot of fun. Your child plays and learns.
And To Wrap It Up
In conclusion, I hope that my Christmas gift ideas for baby 2019 will be useful for you and you will find the perfect gift! If you still hesitating which one to choose – just follow the criteria written above, or place your comment in the comment section, I will be really glad to help. Depending on the age of the baby, there is a variety of gifts. From Christmas outfits and rattles to playmats, plush toys, cloth books, and bathing toys. 4 months. Your baby may be able to kick himself over, from his tummy to his back, as early as age 4 months. It may take him until he’s about 5 or 6 months to flip from back to front, though, because he needs stronger neck and arm muscles for that maneuver.
Every baby develops at its own pace and all parents with multiple kids agree that siblings, even twins never went through the same development stages with the same pace. Never. In that sense, you should know how old is the baby you are buying gifts for (every month counts) and buy something that is for upcoming period (f.eg. if baby is 3 months old, you can buy a play rug, or a cloth book). Parents usually introduce toys a bit earlier than the toy manufacturer suggests, so bear that in mind and for a 6 months old baby do not buy toy that states 3-6 months, rather go for 6-12 months.
