For the record – I am NOT an advocate for children wearing makeup. I don’t like it, I think its inappropriate and I don’t think kids should be wearing it. That being said, my girls have got into my makeup case more times than I can count as they love to ‘pretend’. Sadly pretending usually means destroying some sort of powder or lipstick in the play process. When Pure Poppet contacted me to review their makeup kit I was hesitant but agreed a it was labeled “natural” and thought it might be a fun play kit.
Turns out it is just that and I am more than pleased with the products. As you can see the box itself is quite cute and offers a magnetic closure so you can use it again and again. The kit contains 5 different mineral powders that can be applied dry or mixed with water to create face paint. The colors are not dark and are more of a pastel shade rather than anything too deep. There are also a set of stickers featuring “The Poppets”, a group of fun and whimsical characters.
As you can see from the photo above, the lip balms are very subtle. One is clear and the other (pictured) has the slightest rose hue. The floral water spray offers the tiniest hint of scent – think essential oil rather than artificial perfume.
Made in Australia, this line consists of natural minerals and is completely free from Ferric Ferrocyanide, artificial dyes, FD&C colours, talc, Carmine (also known as Cochineal), Bismuth Oxychloride, mineral oil (and its derivatives) and paraben preservatives.
All in all, I was happy with the kit as it is really geared towards play and make believe and the powders are so light they can easily be wiped off with water. I would much rather my kids play with this kit then my own makeup and so far they’ve stayed out of my travel case, which is a definitely a good thing!
Pure Poppet Kits retail for $39.95 and can be purchased directly through the company.
