I’m always on the lookout for recipes that are quick, easy and cute. My girls are all about the ‘visual’ aspect of things and with tea parties reigning as one of their favorite things to do, finger foods are high on their love list. I saw these adorable French Toast Cups on the Food Network and had to share with you all. Ingredients 4 slices whole wheat bread, crusts removed 1 whole egg 1 egg white 2 tablespoons skim milk 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon honey 1 cup mixed berries 1/2 cup part skim ricotta cheese 2 teaspoons sliced […] Continue reading →

Last week as I floated around Pinterest, I noticed delicious looking Strawberry Shortcake cookies. I loved the idea, but I didn’t love the recipes. Heavy cream in every one I clicked on! Though I usually have some milk in the house, I like to use Almond Milk whenever possible, and it is almost always possible. I feared that it may just ruin this recipe however, so I decided to keep brainstorming. I have been eyeing up Whoopie Pies online for years, so I thought – why not give that a try! I have absolutely no regrets about this recipe. I […] Continue reading →

April is busy month for many families, as it is jam packed with holidays.  From Passover to Easter Monday, you can be certain that at some point, entertaining will be in your near future. Living far away from extended family, we have quite a bit of overnight company on the weekends, particularly Easter weekend, when we usually opt to stay close to home instead of making the 5 hour trek south. I love having people up, and one of my favorite things to do is cook yummy meals and have a big breakfast a little later on in the morning […] Continue reading →

Last week I mentioned that I like to make a big deal out of St. Patrick’s Day. My kids are at mainly Irish in heritage (as is my husband), and I find myself jumping on any opportunity to teach them about other cultures, or their own family history. I grew up with a lively European family, and I thoroughly enjoy experiencing other cultures myself – so it’s a bit for me as well! What is culture without the inclusion of food? Last week we shared a recipe for green spinach blondies, which my my kids LOVED, and today we wanted […] Continue reading →

I have been staring at a box of lasagna noodles sitting in my cupboard for some time, wondering when I’ll ever have the motivation to attempt the many-step process of preparation. Lasagna is a comfort dish for me, and many others I’m sure, and once it is prepared it is easy to freeze, eat for leftovers, and bring along with you to a friend who just welcomed a baby, or perhaps lost a loved one. Lasagna knows no bounds. I may be getting carried away, but I think you can see that my love for lasagna is great – this […] Continue reading →

I think I can safely speak for everyone when I say that we all love Pinterest here at ChildMode. The visuals are always amazing, especially when it comes to food! Today for Food Friday I thought it would be fun to share a simple recipe for Valentine’s Day that kids can help with. My recipe for Heart Shaped Hand Pies was inspired by this yummy looking recipe over at Meet the Dubiens. Though they look similar to a pop-tart these handpies are actually filled with healthy and simple ingredients. The possibilities are endless when it comes to filling, but the […] Continue reading →

The third largest hotel management company in the U.S., Destination Hotels and Resorts, launched their national “Kids Eat Healthy” campaign last week in hopes to encourage families and kids to eat healthy while at home as well as during their travels. Parent and kids can get healthy tips and recipes by visiting the company’s new website. Several of the head chefs from the resorts have come up with some delicious (and healthy) recipes and menus some of which even cater to those with allergies and food sensitivities. Over the next few weeks we will be featuring one of these recipes during our Food […] Continue reading →
