My name is Nadia Carriere and I am an Instagram addict. There, I said it. Yes, like so many others out there, I am hopelessly addicted to the photography/social media app Instagram. I use to to take pictures of my kids, shots of interesting objects, views, travel shots, you name it. The filters are amazing, the photos always look spectacular and because of this I tend to use the app more often then the regular camera feature on my iPhone.

The problem with Instagram, is the printing situation. You can’t get these shots printed at just any online digital print shop. There are a few who do it now, but they tend to be pricey.

We recently reviewed the iPad and found it to be an excellent piece of technology for children. Toymaker, DANO2, seems to agree with our findings, as they have recently created an app that teaches children how to write by zooming airplanes around flight plans as comedian Stephen Kramer Glickman provides the sounds and amusing commentary. Many savvy toddlers are already fans of this app, which is said to be piloted by select kindergarteners when they return to school this fall.

Little Sky Writers TM, is the first game created by DANO2. It teaches kids the correct way to write the letters of the alphabet by having them guide a small airplane through a series of flight paths with their finger. As the children learn to write, Roger the control tower (voiced by comedian and NickelodeonTM star, Stephen Kramer Glickman) provides amusing commentary along the way. The game is so intuitive and fun that it reaches children long before a traditional workbook can.

This app was designed with the input of several veteran Kindergarten teachers and educational professionals. One of the key consultants, Diane Owen, a kindergarten teacher in Santa Maria, CA has been training teachers, and teaching kids how to write their ABC’s for the past 30 years, and looks forward to using what she describes as her “dream program for hands-on & kinesthetic learners” to start this school year off.

Owen is piloting the program with one iPad in her classroom this fall, however has already begun the process of grant writing to expand the number of devices in the classroom. She feels it is better for the students, and more affordable than traditional computers “my students are low income; many do not have the same access to technology as their higher-income counterparts. With this grant, not only will they learn how to write their letters properly, but they will also gain a crucial confidence with technology at an early age.”

Apple unveiled the new iPhone several days ago and by golly they’ve done it yet again! Gorgeous display, video calling, HD video recording and a double sided 5-megapixel camera – the new iPhone has everything you would ever need.

My iTouch is no longer mine as my daughter has claimed it for her own. Apps, games, Little Pim, music – all hers! After watching the commercial below, I’m almost completely sold on the idea of switching over – (and I would have my iTunes back!). Directed by Sam Mendes, this gorgeous commercial is sweet and touching. *Sniff*

Last month, Oceanhouse Media launched three new officially licensed iPhone Apps based on the beloved classic children’s stories by Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss’s ABC are now available as interactive eBooks in the App Store. Children will have the option to read the stories themselves or have them narrated through professional narrations, highlighted picture/word associations and custom background audio.

A unique and fun photo application, the Dr. Seuss Camera – The Cat in the Hat Edition, will allow users to create fun photo cards using the iPhone’s built-in camera or Photo Library. Kids will be able to pose with characters or choose to become the Cat in the Hat, the playful Thing 1 or Thing 2, or even Sally or her brother. Cards can be personalized with comical and colorful stamps, borders and classic Seussian text. Cat in the Hat Cards can be e-mailed to friends and family or saved to the Photo Library.

Little Pim is an absolute favorite in our household! Their educational language DVDs, music CDs, digital downloads and flash cards have been incredible tools in teaching my daughter a second and third language.

Both of my daughters are big fans of the fun and friendly panda and are always entertained and amused throughout the program. Little Pim, does an excellent job in teaching children various phrases, words and terms through visually stimulating interaction.

Julia Pimsleur Levine, mother and daughter of Dr. Paul Pimsleur (the creator of one of the most popular language teaching methods) created this excellent series along with a team of professionals. The Little Pim DVD series is the only foreign language learning product chosen for PBS Kidsplay and has won numerous awards.

Angelina Jolie uses the program to teach her daughter Shiloh, French and Constance Zimmer’s daughter Colette loves it as well.

A few days ago, the long awaited iTunes app was released and I was first online to purchase this little gem.

Little Pim’s Word Bag teaches 27 everyday vocabulary words in either Spanish or French with interactive flash cards,  entertaining and educating at the same time. The clean and clear format makes this app fun and easy to use and it is also an excellent way to keep children occupied while on the go or during a trip.

If you have an iPhone or iTouch, I highly recommend purchasing this for your children. It has become my toddler’s favorite kids app out of the 10 I have downloaded!
