Whenever I find a healthy recipe that my whole family (toddler included) loves, I feel like throwing my hands in the air like Whoopi Goldberg in Sister Act. Hallelujah! It’s a miracle, I swear. I wasn’t expecting quinoa stuffed bell peppers to make the list of healthy foods my little ones love, but oh my goodness did they love these. The mild turkey sausage and quinoa filling is flavorful but not at all overpowering for developing palates. My son even loved the taste of the sweet, softened bell peppers. It’s a great way to use up extra quinoa if you […] Continue reading →

This is by far one of my favorite side dishes to feed my kids. It is one of the only ways I can get them to load up on their veggies and give them a bit of protein all at once! My kids could eat fruit all day long but they always, always snub their veggies unless I dish them up with a heaping helping of carbs mixed in. This vegetable fried rice also makes a wonderful main dish with a little bit of shrimp or teriyaki chicken mixed in. Have you ever made fried rice? What’s your favourite flavour […] Continue reading →

I love these few weeks before summer really begins. It’s warm but not sweltering, and the days are nice and long. As soon as the weather starts to warm up, I find myself putting food with light, bright flavors on my menu. This easy baked lemon chicken is a huge hit with my family, and pairs beautifully with some of the sweet yellow corn that’s cheap and in season. It requires very little hands-on time, and since I make the marinade in the afternoon it takes a lot of the work off my hands when it’s time to actually make […] Continue reading →

Okay, so this may not be the health-conscious type of recipe you’re used to seeing from me, but you’ve got to live on the  wild side every once in a while. A group of my favorite ladies from Reno Moms Blog got together last weekend and had a “Favorite Things” party and potluck. I always consider gatherings a get-out-of-jail-free card for eating whatever my heart desires, and it desires this jalapeno popper dip. Always. It disappeared in no time. There probably weren’t enough of us there to justify that we ate an entire batch of jalapeno popper dip, but it […] Continue reading →

I don’t know abut you, but in my neck of the woods it’s definitely starting to feel like summer. The sun is out until late in the evening and the weather is warm from the moment I wake up. This week it got hot enough for us to play in the sprinklers to beat the heat! For me, there’s no better treat on a hot afternoon than a cool, creamy popsicle. I remember towards the end of the year my school cafeteria used to sell orange creamsicles at lunchtime, and eating those sickly sweet ice-cream filled treats as they dripped […] Continue reading →

If you’re looking for something special to treat your mom to this Mother’s Day, look no further. If you’re looking for a dessert you can eat any old weeknight without feeling guilty, again, look no further. These strawberry brownie parfaits are the perfect treat to end any meal. Made with whole wheat brownies (you don’t have to tell your family, they’ll be none the wiser, I promise), fresh ripe strawberries and creamy Greek yogurt, but taste every bit as decadent as their traditional whipped cream and full fat brownie counterpart. Around here, my husband usually makes a pretty big show […] Continue reading →

I’m totally a snack hog. I usually snack my way through the day until dinner time, forgoing anything that could be counted as an actual meal. Where did that entire box of Wheat Thins go while I was watching Downton Abbey? I don’t know, but I’m covered in crumbs and regret. These crispy zucchini snacks are an awesome alternative to popcorn as a movie snack (we made a batch while watching Frozen for the umpteenth time this week), and you can even amp up the health factor by baking them. I prefer them with that crisp brown coating that you […] Continue reading →
