After all of the jewelry recalls that have been issued in 2010 alone, lawmakers in California, are in the process of trying to get a bill passed that would limit cadmium in children’s jewelry to a minuscule amount. It was announced last week that 70,000 charm bracelets and football rings were being recalled due to high levels of cadmium. The entire line of Miley Cyrus-brand jewelry is being pulled from Wal-Mart shelves after tests performed for The Associated Press found they contained high levels of the toxic metal cadmium. AP reports: In a statement released three hours after AP’s initial report of its findings Monday, Wal-Mart said it would “remove all of the jewelry from sale” while it investigates. Yesterday, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recalled 19,000 “Best Friends” charm bracelets, which were sold by Claire’s Boutiques due to high levels of cadmium which is a carcinogen known to harm the kidneys and bones. The “Best Friends” three bracelet sets are silver-colored chains with metal pendants containing one of the words “Best,” “Friends” or “Forever” and heart lock and key charms with different colored stones.
