I love colouring with my daughter. There’s nothing quite like sitting down with a huge box of crayons — every colour in the world — and a fresh sheet of paper, completely empty, yet filled with possibilities. I find colouring with her an incredibly calming activity which includes the added luxury of being able to watch her artistic side come through and amaze me with her creations. Recently, we’ve seen a few parent-child art collaborations in the news, and I wanted to share two today. First, artist Fred Giovannitti started a business trip tradition with his daughters — ages 6 and […] Continue reading →

The young artist’s pieces grace collections worldwide, with some commanding up to $25,000. She was the youngest artist ever featured at the National Art Education Association’s annual convention, […] Continue reading →

I consider myself a bit of a typography nerd, so when I was first introduced to these gorgeous works of art from Spineless Classics I was absolutely tickled! Reading books as a child shaped me into the mother I am today, and I take no greater pleasure than snuggling up with my daughter at night with a favourite, classic story in our hands. Spineless Classics have taken our most beloved tombs and texts to the next level, by incorporating their stories into complex and visually engaging wall art. These special posters feature a memorable scene from their respective tales, formed […] Continue reading →

Claude Monet – Waterlilies I fancy myself an art history buff. I spent much of my youth reading hand-me-down university texts on the subject, and to this day feel most at home smack dab in the middle of a museum. Seems at though I have quite a bit in common with these babies/art aficionados. A new study released in the journal Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity and the Arts has revealed that babies tend to learn more towards the bright and abstract work of Pablo Picasso versus the more subtle work of Claude Monet. The study consisted of 24 babies from […] Continue reading →
