beignets

Looking for the best beignets in New Orleans? I’ve found them! Soft fluffy donuts with a crispy fried outer shell covered in mounds of white sugar. The beignet may very well be one of the best culinary masterpieces to come out of the United States. At least in my opinion. I finally, FINALLY had a chance to try one of these incredible treats during our trip to New Orleans and they definitely lived up to their reputation. Cafe Du Monde is the most famous spot to dine in New Orleans. It is the original French Market Coffee stand since 1862 […] Continue reading →

Wye Marsh with Kids

The kids are out of school, which means many of us are busy travelling or planning day trips and other fun activities to keep everyone busy for the next couple of months. I like to take our children on trips that will both educate and entertain. The Wye Marsh Wildlife Center in Midland is ideal for kids of all ages and is located on 3,000 acres of wetlands, fern and forest near Georgian Bay.  As soon as you enter the building, you’ll notice the indoor displays. Here you can learn all about the wetlands and the variety of plant and wildlife located […] Continue reading →

This article is part of the momondo experience series where momondo challenged me to find the quirkiest place to visit in Ottawa. I’d say this is it. When most people come to Ottawa they plan on visiting the Parliament buildings, riding a double-decker bus or maybe even joining in on a yoga class on Parliament Hill. Ottawa is one of Canada’s crowning jewels and a fascinating city to visit. Loaded with history and fun things to do, you won’t regret making plans to visit. If you’re coming this far though and looking for something truly unique then you simply can’t […] Continue reading →

Frozen Tour Quebec City

Although I’m Canadian, as of February 2014, I had yet to go dog-sledding. It’s a little odd as dog-sledding is a major activity in this country, but I just had never got around to it. When I saw the activity listed in our agenda for the “Frozen” press event in Quebec City, I was completely stoked! Finally, I’d get my chance to see what the hubbub was all about. We visited Pourveoirie du Lac Beauport  in the late afternoon and received the full run-down by one of the guides at the establishment. He was extremely thorough and gave us a […] Continue reading →

Hotel de Glace - Ice Hotel

Quebec City is home to rich history and plenty of activities, but it’s shining star is North America’s only ice hotel. The Hotel de Glace has been on my bucket list for several years now, so when I was offered the chance to sleep at the hotel and experience this wonder of ice and snow, I jumped on it! What’s it like to sleep on an ice bed and how did I not freeze during the night when the temperature was -15C? I’ll tell you! Check-in time is quite late for a hotel and it was recommended that we arrive […] Continue reading →

hogswart 3

“Hogsmeade looked like a Christmas card; the little thatched cottages and shops were all covered in a layer of crisp snow; there were holly wreaths on the doors and strings of enchanted candles hanging in the trees.” As a child I used to wish that I could visit magical places like the ones I found in the books I read. I would close my eyes and let my mind wander as I visited far off places and exotic locales. I loved how books opened up my imagination for me and let me travel to places that no real place could […] Continue reading →

Hotel de Glace Image 2

If you’ve seen the movie “Frozen,” you are going to be positively giddy about this morning’s announcement! Today, Walt Disney Studios announced the “Frozen”-inspired suite at Quebec City’s famed Hôtel de Glace, in celebration of the movie’s Blue-ray and Digital HD release. This incredible ice room was created entirely out of sculpted ice and snow and supervised by the film’s art director Michael Giaimo. Yes, you read that right – an ice room! The “Frozen Suite” has been modeled after Anna and her sister Elsa’s bedrooms. Hôtel de Glace is a must-see attraction and something everyone should put on their […] Continue reading →
