It’s here! On Monday Burberry debuted their beautiful Spring Summer 2012 Childrenswear Collection, which like their previous lines includes Mini-Me looks inspired by their runway looks from the Men’s and Women’s Prorsum line.

A mega-trend color this year for all things “kids fashion” is blue and Burberry has used various shades of it throughout this collection, in particular – pale china blue, imperial blue, navy, military navy and turquoise. Beautiful accents of greens, jade, various shades of yellow such as celandine and gorse, oranges, military red, crimson, pink and purples can also be found in abundance.

Burberry has also got a little adventurous with their prints and patterns, something you don’t see too often.

You’ll find plenty of coats in the collection with focuses on tradition as well as some new styles – trench coats, heritage outerwear, parkas, pea coats, duffle coats, puffer jackets, quilted jackets, reversible jackets as well as a line of check shirts, mouliné knits, cashmere knits, jerseys, piqués, dresses and jumpsuits.

I know that I’ve written about my two boys’ obsession with costumes in the past and that is because they absolutely adore them! We have many, though they all fit in somewhere in the superhero spectrum. Spiderman and Batman costumes abound, and with my oldest turning 5 soon, I am crossing my fingers we can start to move toward a wider scope as far as interests go.

Lotty Dotty is a company founded in 2009 by two American women living in Paris, France. They ladies were inspired by their childhood memories of playing with paper dolls and decided to create a line of high-fashion tees featuring screen printed doll figures that can be dressed interchangeably with velcro-backed mini outfits.

These unique tees are available in sizes from a child’s 4-10 and teen and adult sizes. Each one of Lotty Dotty’s tees are made from organic cotton and bamboo along with recycled materials.

So, what do you think of these new paper doll dress-up tees? Would you or your daughter be game to wearing something like this? It reminds me a little bit of Old Navy’s new tech line of clothing. Seems as though many companies are trying to integrate ‘something more’ in their designs.

Although my girls love to wear dresses in the winter, they usually have to cover them up with sweaters as they aren’t quite warm enough. It has been a staple piece for my eldest and looks fantastic on her.

The Paige pants and Paige sweater are spiffy as well and great wardrobe staples for the girls. The Zion sweater and matching Liam pants are the “Paige” for boys. Definite must-haves for colder weather.

Kids Organic Designs is what I like to call “loungewear for babes”. All of the pieces are dyed using a non toxic natural formula using plant leaves instead of roots, bark and wood, thus eliminating the need to kill the tree. Sustainability is evident with this company! Amazingly enough, the natural blues, reds, purples and browns are made using two vegetable dyes” indigo blue and Morinda red both from trees in Thailand.

By mixing the leaves with other natural ingredients such as Mohagany leaves, mango and others, the master dyers are able to manipulate the colors to create various shades. There are no graphics in this collection, everything is solid and in a two-way color tone.

Each piece of comfy loungewear is made from organic cotton, so they are incredibly soft and easy to take care of. There is plenty of room for movement, so they are great for play. Because each piece is so basic, they can be matched up with other pieces from your baby or child’s wardrobe.

Here it is! BOSS has unveiled their Spring/Summer 2012 fashion line and the look is chic sportswear with a hint of nautical inspiration, which seems to make it’s way back with many of the children’s designers, year after year.

Boys get a stylish yet relaxed look with classic marine colours of bright turquoise, greens, dark blues and white. Natural materials are worked in as well. Some key pieces include a suit jacket in natural shades of earth, sand, tray and beige made from cotton and linen.

The brand plays around a bit for Spring – for example a micro-printed sun glasses contrast with minimalist graphics shifted slightly as if to say “Why so serious!” Ultra clean denims marry coated nylon jackets or broad striped polos.

Girls welcome lightness and “the summer of love” with classic elegance and plenty of modern contrasts. Dresses and blouses with broad stripes and ruffled taffeta offer a soft silhouette while modernized pieces such as gray jeans or dresses made from modal offer more of a “city chic” look. Luxury clothing lovers rejoice! Versace has opened their very first Young Versace boutique in Milan. The company’s kids’ line made it’s official debut at the Pitti Immagine Bimbo exhibition in Florence last June.

Young Versace is located on the ground floor of the company’s headquarters on Via Borgospesso and is quite small at 538 square feet. A large merry-go-round greets you when you arrive and keeps the kids busy while you shop.

The Versace kids’ line includes clothes and accessories for both girls and boys from infancy to age 12.

I have officially gone boy fashion crazy! Suits, ties, suspenders, little spiffy shoes, you name it I have it. Now, don’t get me wrong I adore my girls and all of the poufy, glittery, pinkness, but the house has become, shall we say… a little too pink.The blue is such a nice addition and has balanced things out quite a bit.

One of my favorite companies for boys is Fat Tie. They have come up with a tee that has the tie sewn right in. There is no need to worry about dry-cleaning or fastening the tie to your child’s collar, because it is literally part of the shirt! Since the tees are made from a lightweight 100% cotton fabric and the ties, waffle jersey knit, they are a cinch to wash and can just be thrown in the dryer.

Last month, GapKids launched their brand new “I Want Candy” Campaign featured around their new holiday fashion collection consisting of tutus, tulle skirts, layered dresses, sequinned cardigans and glitter accessories.

The girly campaign centres around a music video featuring Maria Aragon. When I hit play on the video, my girls recognized the young singer immediately. The talented Maria Aragon is an eleven year-old Canadian who went viral on YouTube after she performed her rendition of Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way”.

The “I Want Candy” fashion collection is cute and very colourful offering vibrant colours like rose petal, blue, slate, abbey green and ruby red. Clothing consists of warm tweed overcoats, cozy wool sweaters, classic plaid shirts and tiered tulle dresses complete with ruffles, sparkles and faux fur.

Boys aren’t left out. There are plenty of spiffy finds including brightly colored plaid shirts, argyle sweaters and toasty outerwear.

Remember the limited edition dress line, Oscar de la Renta released last year? It did so well, that the designer has decided to develop an in-house children’s wear collection. This will be a first in Oscar de la Renta’s 45-year career!

Catherine Monteiro de Barros, the founder and designer of Lisbon-based luxury children’s brand Papo d’Anjo has been brought on board as the vice president of design for the new collection. She actually closed her own line last week after 17 years in the business.

According to WWD:

“There will be a collection for girls between the ages of 18 months and 14 years old, as well as one for boys in the same age range. There will be a capsule collection for spring-summer available at Bergdorf Goodman, Harrods and Oscar de la Renta boutiques. The first full line will be unveiled for fall-winter through the designer’s Web site, as well as his freestanding stores and select luxury retailers.”

Monteiro de Barros says her designs for youngsters tend to appeal to “mothers who are interested in quality and style but who also want their children to look like children.”

In order to cultivate the new line, de Barros says they will be counting on at-home trunk shows, a tactic that launched in the early 90′s.
