Yoga Joes – Yoga Gear for Boys (and Girls!)
When I came across a photo of the classic green Army men doing yoga poses, Yoga Joes, I stopped in my tracks to smile. How awesome and innovate to take a toy that spans generations, and give it a peaceful twist, while also reminding people that yoga is for everyone from all walks of life. I will be pre-ordering a set of these for my son as soon as I can! Yoga Joes was launched through a Kickstarter campaign (which was fully-funded, yay!) by a company called Brogamats. Brogamats’ tag line is “Yoga for dudes. And women too.” Their company was founded on the belief that “yoga practitioners defy simple categorization, and include people of all walks of life, all genders, all Lululemon budgets, and all levels of earthy pretentiousness. We are avid yogaphiles who felt the range of yoga products currently available was frustratingly narrow, so we decided to start designing our own.” And I am sure glad they did!
The classic green Army men in yoga poses (currently on sale, so head there quick), are available as a set of nine in poses Headstand, Meditation Pose, Cobra Pose, Warrior One, Warrior Two, Child’s Pose, Tree Pose, Crow Pose, and Downward-facing dog.
In addition to the classic green, Yoga Joes are also available in hot pink. Fun, fierce, and focused!
Brogamats mat bags selection is incredible. Rugged, manly, and a comical conversation piece, these are all perfect for carrying around town before class. I want to buy the Downward-facing Log for myself when it’s back in stock! Available prints include Lumberjack, Burrito, Quiver of Arrows (matching mat below), Bears, Ninja, solid colors, and, of course, a Tasteful Plaid.
The Quiver of Arrows yoga mat is the only mat print available at this time, but keep looking back for more. I look forward to more releases. I recently had been searching for long/tall yoga mats for my husband, since he is over 6′, and even at 5’10”, I am often off my mat during class. After a search online, I thought I must be crazy for looking for a longer mat, but I notice Brogamats puts this right out there, stating, “given that men are taller, heavier and sweat more than women, we decided to make a mat that was extra long, extra thick, and grippy as hell.” SOLD. I will be adding this to my husband’s holiday list if he keeps up his power yoga classes. This is one company that I am excited to have come across as it ties in comedy with a peaceful form of exercise!
