5 Ways To Travel with Peace of Mind
During casual conversation with friends a few weeks ago, I had two women tell me that they completely avoided traveling with their small children due to the stress that’s involved with all of the planning and travel.
Completely avoided all travel.
As a fan of family travel, that statement was so sad for me to hear. We’ve made so many incredible memories travelling with our children. Yes, there are times that you may feel overwhelmed but it really isn’t all that bad. You can travel with peace of mind as long as you plan ahead accordingly.
Here’s a teaser from a video campaign I did recently with MasterCard Canada. You can view the full version here. Traveling with a MasterCard that offers travel perks is just one of the ten ways you can keep peace of mind.
1. Travel Insurance, Points & Perks
Traveling with a credit card that is geared around travel is a great idea as it usually includes insurance, the ability to collect points and other perks. Shop around to find out which card would work best for you. For us, the BMO MasterCard has been our saving grace for the past 11 years now as it takes care of so many things in one neat little package.
2. Bring Snacks
I have said this time and time again – pack your own snacks! Whether you’re traveling by yourself or with one/multiple children, you can save your money and the health of your family by packing snacks that are travel-friendly and healthy. Gas stations carry nothing but junk and you’ll spend so much more when purchasing fast food on the run. Take a little time to make your own goodies beforehand.
3. Don’t Overplan
Making plans is always the best way to go, but don’t jam pack your itinerary every hour on the hour. Leave lots of time in between in case you’d like to change your plans at the spur of the moment, or take a time out for overtired kids. You’ll most likely have to create alternate arrangements for a few of your planned activities, so don’t stress yourself out by packing in to much! Kids can be unpredictable…
4. Clip Coupons
Use Google.com as a resource for searching for coupons, discount codes and other savings for activities, hotels and car rentals. You can save yourself a pretty penny and all it takes is a click of a button.
The kids are going to be alright. You’re going to be okay. Really. Relax, take a breath and enjoy this time with your family! Take lots of photos (or not) and just enjoy yourself. Go with the flow, have fun and really take it all in, because these kids of ares are only small for a short time. Before you know it they’ll be off to college.
