Ordering Out While Staying Healthy – Is It Possible?
Between after school activities, weekend trips to the city and everything in between, it can be hard to prepare every meal from scratch. I do the best I can and like to make meals ahead of time as often as possible, but sometimes that isn’t enough and we’re forced to eat out. Luckily, there is a healthy option that is readily available and I’m excited to share details about it!
For the entire month of May, my family and I joined the SUBWAY® Restaurants’ Commit to Fit™ program and swapped out bad habits (french fries) with healthier options. We took the family out to dinner once per week and ate at SUBWAY. Since we’re vegetarians, Subway is the one restaurant that caters to our family in a big way, offering healthy choices that everyone can enjoy.
After running a mud run over the weekend, Subway was our lunch of choice. Burgers, fries and other offerings were at hand, but after a rigorous and strenuous morning, my body was craving something healthier.
I was thrilled to see that Subway had brought back their avocado and spinach for the season! My daughter can’t have cheese, so the avocado adds a nice addition to her sandwich. Also, I have a huge obsession with the fatty fruit, and have opted to add it to Subway salads as well as their sandwiches.
Using avocado instead of mayonnaise on a sandwich provides the creaminess of mayo, but with more benefits, such as Omega-3 (and it tastes soo good!).
Now it’s your turn! I challenge you to switch out your convenience meal for something fresh and healthy. Join the #SUBWAYFreshSwap and share your experiences on Twitter and Facebook! You can also follow SUBWAY® Canada on Facebook and Twitter.
