Caicos Conch Farm & Where To Find The Best Conch In Providenciales, Turks & Caicos

I’ve always been enamored by conch. When I was three-years-old my parents took me on my first trip to Jamaica. The souvenir was of course, a giant conch shell. I would put me ear to the conch and “listen to the ocean” convinced it held some sort of magic. You can imagine my excitement when a trip to the conch farm was arranged for myself and my daughter.


The conch start off as the tiniest little shells and over the course of 5-25 years, they can get quite large. Caicos Conch Farm is the world’s first and only commercial conch farm where they grow conch and several varieties of fish while providing a 30 minute tour to guests who are interested in the life cycle of the infamous Caribbean Queen Conch.

Our guide was informative and kept the tour highly entertaining and interesting. It was truly amazing to see the conch at their various stages. Admission for the tour will run at $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for children. Be sure to bring some extra change as there are some fabulous shells and souvenirs available for purchase in their gift shop!

After our trip to the Caicos Conch Farm, we visited Bugaloo’s. According to the locals, this is THE best place to eat conch and after our visit, I would have to agree wholeheartedly.


We drove up to what can only be described as a shack. Bugaloo’s doesn’t look like much from the outside, but once you walk in, you’ll experience one of the best meals on Provo. Located approximately 25 minutes from Grace Bay, Bugaloo’s specializes in conch and fish dishes that are as fresh as you can possibly get considering that they catch their ingredients just steps away from the restaurant.

or outside on a deck overlooking the ocean.

IMG_0091The menu includes conch meals prepared in every way imagination. Coconut conch, fried conch, conch fritters, conch salad, etc. You name it, they have it. Everything is crispy, light and oh so fresh. Unlike any conch I’ve had in the past, divine!

IMG_0109After our meal we took a walk along the beach where we watched the men catch conch and admired the discarded shells.

TIP: There’s a man situated directly next to the restaurant, harvesting and cracking open conch for Bugaloo’s He’ll give you a full demonstration from start to finish if you’re interested. It is quite the experience and something your kids might be into. I was a tad queasy afterwards, but omitted most of the icky parts for the video I put together below.
