Vero Beach Hotel and Spa by Kimpton ~ Full Review & Photos

Wanting to visit Kennedy Space Center before the summer was over, I began planning a combined beach / Space Center weekend getaway, however I had trouble finding a nearby beachfront resort that met my requirements.  That was until I set my sights a little further south in Vero Beach.  Just an hour and a half drive from the Space Center, the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa is right on the beach with a beautiful pool and spacious, comfortable accommodations for the entire family. Perfect!  This Kimpton Hotel is a cozy 113-room boutique style hotel with all the elegance and amenities you’d expect from beachfront properties in larger cities like Miami or Fort Lauderdale. Speaking of Miami, our editor Nadia Carriere recently reviewed the EPIC Hotel by Kimpton in Miami and had an amazing time with her family.

Upon our arrival, we were greeted with a beach pail goodie basket for each of my two boys.  I love nothing more than a gesture that assures me that my children are welcome and valued guests at a hotel property.  Let’s just say that the way to this mom’s heart is to delight her children!

I was also impressed that every employee we encountered during check in was remarkably friendly and welcoming, but when we arrived up to our room we were even more impressed. The rooms at the Vero Beach Hotel are modern, beachy and comfortably luxurious.  We had a Studio Suite with two queen beds and a balcony. The suite offers  a  sunken living room space with a pull out sofa so we had plenty of room for our family of four.  Depending on how large your family is, or the size of accommodations required, the Vero Beach Hotel  offers one bedroom, two bedroom and three bedroom suites to accommodate larger parties or longer stays.

Pool and Beach

The beach and pool were the two aspects that we were looking forward to the most, so that is just how we spent our time.  Half our visit was spent at the beach and the other half we relaxed at the pool.

Beach attendants prepared lounges and an umbrella for us and with the pails the kids received upon check-in, we were set for a beach day.  There were also additional beach toys to borrow, a nice bathroom nearby and kayaks and paddleboards that could be rented.  With a volleyball net and even a beanbag toss game set up on the beach, nothing was lacking in the beachfront experience except crowds and excessive noise.  This is just the beach day I had been dreaming of –  happy kids, a shady spot, and warm waves with no effort but putting on our bathing suits.

The pool was an equally exceptional experience.  Full of friendly guests, it felt more like a backyard pool party with friends and family, except it was complete with plenty of dry resort towels, ice water stations and servers from the poolside restaurant serving snacks and drinks.

Around the corner, a secluded hot tub had a more serene and relaxing atmosphere.  We ended our magnificent afternoon in the hot tub (kids only on the top step!) before heading back upstairs to our cool and comfortable room for showers and a nap.  How much more ideal than that can you get for a vacation?!

Activities and Amenities

Without the kids or if Grandma and Grandpa were with us, there are some additional hotel amenities that I’m sure we would have enjoyed at the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa. One evening, on our way to dinner, we passed by the hotel’s nightly happy hour where a friendly crowd was enjoying wine and conversation. If pampering is what you’re looking for,  the White Orchid Spa has all the treatments to help relax and rejuvenate and the fitness center just off the pool will keep your workout schedule on track.

On Florida’s Treasure Coast, there are opportunities for golfing, boating, fishing, surfing, snorkeling or any other activities that come to mind when you think of a Florida vacation.  Additionally, Local Vero Beach attractions include the McKee Botanical Garden and The Environmental Learning Center, a sea turtle refuge.

While the Vero Beach Hotel’s signature restaurant, Cobalt, is an elegant beachside restaurant, we opted for quicker and more casual options with our little ones.  I hope that next time we’re in Vero I have the opportunity to give Cobalt a try!

Room service for breakfast is a time saving luxury.  The boys gave their malted waffles rave reviews, and believe me, my little waffle experts know what they’re talking about!  The breakfast was brought up quickly and the dining area in the sunken living room was a comfortable and convenient place for us all to eat.  With only minimal chair rearranging, all four of us could sit and the table together and enjoy.

The other dining option at the hotel was the poolside Heaton’s Reef, a casual bar and grill.  Tables for Heaton’s Reef are located right between the beach and the pool so it’s absolutely the ideal place for lunch.  The kids’ meals were spot on for them (and they’re also experts on chicken fingers!) and our drinks and sandwiches hit the spot exactly on a sunny summer day.   Heaton’s Reef is open into the evening as well so it works well for a casual outdoor dinner.

All In All

If you’re looking for a cozy but elegant beachfront property between West Palm Beach and Daytona Beach, take a look at Vero.  The Vero Beach Hotel and Spa is a low-key, quiet spot to avoid the crowds and hustle and bustle of more touristy areas, but still enjoy a beautiful beach vacation.  I hope to return soon and often!
