Taking Instagram Shots Underwater – 5 Waterproof Cases To Protect Your Phone

Today, we are mixing things up a bit. At 12 p.m. EST and 5 p.m. London time, we will be hosting a Twitter chat all about Instagram Travel. In case you missed our previous announcement, you can find all the details in last week’s post

Most travel shots are taken above ground, but did you know you could also be taking Instagram shots underwater? Send Instagram shots of colourful fish in the ocean, coral or the white sand on the beaches of the Caribbean by utilizing a waterproof iPhone case. I’ve used the Lifeproof case in the past and took a few underwater shots with it, however I needed to switch the case for a special occasion and found it hard to remove. They have since changed the design for the better and have recently been acquired by Otterbox. Speaking of Otterbox, the big name case manufacturer has come out with their own waterproof case and according to the reviews, it’s a good one.

If you are in the market for a waterproof iPhone case, here are 5 you may want to consider.

The new Armor Series from Otterbox offers waterproof protection up to 30 minutes in 6.6 ft. It can also withstand up to two tons of crushing force and survives 10 ft drops. The case is waterproof, drop proof, dust proof and crush proof. It is currently available for the Galaxy, iPhone 4, 4S and 5. The case retails for $99.95 through Otterbox, however Amazon.com offers better deals on the cases starting at $65.00.

The Ballistic Hydra Series is a newer case that is both lightweight and easy to install (and remove). It offers great sound quality, protects against dust, dirt and stand and offers shock absorbers and Reinforced Ballistic Corners to protect against corner drops. The case can be used under water up to 7 ft for up to 20 minutes and meets military specifications. In other words, this is one heavy duty case! Price: $79.99

817l2RnsRrL._SL1500_The LifeProof case is one of the original waterproof cases for iPad, iPhone and Android. It is the thinnest and lightest case out there and allows you to submerse your phone up to 6.6 feet. The frē  is the newest model and retails for $71.00 through Amazon.com.

Griffin’s Survivor and Catalyst Waterproof Case can be used in water up to 9.8 feet deep and is designed with a gasketed seal that keps water, dust, grease and sand – out! Price: $50.00 through Amazon.com.

The Frieq case is a great pick for most electronic devices and happens to be the cheapest of all of the cases I’ve featured today. This bag case provides protection for phones, digital cameras or mp3 players up to 5.4″. It is waterproof up to 100 feet (30 meters). Regularly priced at $29.99, this case is on sale through Amazon.com for $9.99.

Great ideas Nadia, I am not planning to dive underwater any time soon, but waterproof case might be useful for winter when it rains a lot, especially as I like so snap misty photos in the drizzle..

My husband has also been using the Lifeproof case for his iPhone while working on the river (he coaches kayaking), but his leaked once and broke the phone… He reckons though it was because he kept taking it off and putting it back on, and the seal kind of wore off. So his own fault really, but he’s take on it was that it is great if you keep it on all the time.

I need to get one soon as I hope to be back on the water kayaking soon as well, thanks for the other suggestions too!! :)
