Review: Skip Hop Versa Diaper Bag

I may have found “The One.” Yes, it’s true, I may have found the elusive perfect diaper bag. Even before I had a child, I was a huge fan of diaper bags due to the amount of pockets they contain compared to all other handbags. My friends had always nicknamed my purses, “the mom bag” and would even call me out of a movie theatre so they could smuggle snacks inside of my handbag, tote, messenger, or whichever bag I was using at that time. Now, since having a child, I have researched, used, and coveted many (MANY) changing bags and I found Skip Hop to be one of my top favorite brands for so many reasons. This past week, the Versa diaper bag in the Sketch Diamond print has been my constant companion, and it has blown me away with it’s practicality, style, and functionality — which is hard to do!

First off, the Skip Hop Versa diaper bag can be used two ways: with the center zipper closed, forming a compact shape, or with the zipper open, revealing an expandable center creating 20% more space inside.

fully loaded, and still room!

As I said above, I am an over-packer. I blame the former Girl Scout in me as it’s hard for me not to try and be prepared for anything. My son is now a toddler and I am finding it much easier to leave the house without the kitchen sink, it’s still nice to have a bag that is able to hold more when taking day trips or outings. The Versa bag holds a TON. I am impressed. You can see in the photo above that the bag is packed full, but is not bulky, heavy, or cumbersome. The bag itself is super lightweight, so it’s only as heavy as what you add inside…and I have a lot inside.

this bag holds an amazing amount of essentials

The two pouches shown are Kate Spade (my favorite for transferring between diaper bag and handbag, if needed), and they are also full. One has makeup and personal items like hair ties, etc., and the other has all sunscreen and after-sun products for myself and my son. That way, I only grab the one pouch if we’re going somewhere needed sun protection (daily here in Florida), and don’t have to transfer each tube and bottle separately. Wipes, hand sanitizer, lip balm, and sunglasses all fit in one outside zip pocket, and the cup fits easily in an outside bottle pocket. The books fit in one inside pocket, my wallet in another, all bibs/pouches/utensils in another, and there is even one pocket leftover for a change of clothes. A pouch fits in the center, main area of the diaper bag, the snack cup fits next to it, along with a shopping tote, and snack cube. It’s amazing.

a peek inside, full, with even an empty pocket for a change of clothes!

the outside pockets

The zippered changing pad compartment fits the Skip Hop padded changing pad, along with a few disposable diapers, or about two cloth, along with a travel pack of wipes. The two front zip, insulated bottle pockets are roomy, easy to access, and I love the front slide-in pockets. Perfect for a straw cup, a nursing cover, or even just tissues.

The stroller clips fasted to side buckles when not in use, leaving them out of the way of the interior. The inside of the straps are grippy and non-slip on your stroller handles.

This bag is fantastic and I am so impressed with it. My only issue is that when wearing the bag with a strapless dress (like a pool cover-up), or thin-strapped tank top, the strap is a little rough on your skin compared to other bags. This is obviously not an issue at all when wearing a shirt or sleeveless shirt. I love the lightweight material, the water-resistant lining, and light-colored lining which makes it easy to find everything inside.

Bottom line: This is an incredible diaper bag. It’s stylish, functional, practical, roomy, affordable, and I highly recommend it!

The Skip Hop Versa Diaper Bag retails for $70, and you can find it online at Skip Hop or through your favorite local retailer.
