Where Is The Best Place To Stay In Scarborough, Ontario – Close To Toronto Zoo

“Where is the best place to stay in Scarborough, Ontario, that is good for families and is close to the Toronto Zoo?”

This is a question that I asked myself several weeks ago and after staying in the area several times in the past, it was one that needed an answer stat. Scarborough is an area of the city where luxury hotels and great accommodations are not in abundance. The Toronto Zoo is the main attraction here, so family-friendly accommodations are a must. Delta Toronto East graciously provided us with a stay at their hotel and it was perfect in every sense of the word.

Located just 10 minutes from the Toronto Zoo, Delta Toronto East caters to families in a big way. Upon arrival we were greeted by the front desk manager who provided our children with their own bag of toys and treats.

This is a regular perk at Delta Hotels for children up to 7 years of age, and one that we’ve enjoyed during our stays at other Delta locations.

After we received our room keys and started making our way to the elevators, the kids got the surprise of their lives.

Delta Scarborough Water Slides

There is a water slide inside the hotel! Open until 10 p.m., the pool area offers two saltwater swimming pools – one for the family and one for little kids, as well as a 110-foot long water slide and a hot tub. My kids were jumping at the bit to swim, but after a long day on the road all I wanted to do was unpack and get a bite to eat before heading to the pool.

Delta Toronto East Room

Our room was spacious and comfortable with two queen size beds, a generously sized bathroom and the regular amenities you would expect in a hotel room. The internet access was also good and never spotty during our stay – a must for me as I work while traveling!

Whitesides Grill

We didn’t have far to go for dinner as the hotel has three restaurants on site. We decided on Whitesides Terrace Grill where you could order off a full menu or serve yourself at the buffet. Our second surprise was a very pleasant one as the waiter informed us that children ages 6 and under eat free from the children’s menu and kids 7-12 eat for 1/2 price off the adult menu or regular price from the children’s menu. Needless to say, we were quite happy with this arrangement. There were quite a few healthy options available for dinner and breakfast was even more impressive. We could choose from waffles, an omelet station, fresh-baked goods, eggs, oatmeal, cereal, baked tomatoes, large assortments of fruit, potatoes and much more. Everything was fresh, delicious and best of all – FREE for the kids!

The pool was a big hit with the kids, in fact they ended up staying until 10 p.m. Something that is unheard of on a regular day as my children usually go to bed at 7:30. After a full day on the road, I definitely made an exception, which turned out to be a good choice as they fell asleep instantly and didn’t wake up until 9 a.m.!

Delta Toronto East

Having stayed at several establishments in the Scarborough area, I can honestly say that Delta Toronto East is the best place to stay in the area. It’s family friendly and an ideal choice when visiting the Toronto Zoo. Be sure to ask about their special packages as they tend to offer a zoo package with discounted tickets and accommodations to save you money.

Disclosure: Child Mode was not paid for this post, however we did receive complimentary accommodations in lieu of our press visit to the Toronto Zoo.
