We Only Have 18 Summers ~ How To Make It Their Best Summer Yet #SearsBabysRoom

As soon as January rolls around, I begin planning our summer. As a business owner who works from home, it can get a little tricky as our peak season is in the summer, but that never stops me. A couple of years ago during a conference at Walt Disney World Resort, something was said to me that resonated so deeply that I since changed my entire outlook on parenting.

We have 18 summers with our children.

18. That’s it. 18 summers to make memories, to travel, to discover. We have 18 years of silliness, fun and childish play before adulthood sets in.

Summers filled with freezies and popsicles.

Reading on mom’s bed.

Swinging on swing sets.

18 years of play both clean and messy.

I’ve vowed to make every, single, summer, count. In an effort to inject even more fun into our summer, I have been looking through the Sears catalog for something that is more than just a regular toy. Something that entertains and thrills for extended periods of time (ahem!).

I’ve narrowed it down to three and I better get cracking with my decision as Sears has a really great promo going on, but it ends today (details below!)

We’ve been waiting to buy a big trampoline for awhile now, but as my son is still too young, this one from Little Tikes would be ideal. It’s suited for ages 3-6 and has netting on all sides as well as a fully padded frame for safety.

Forget the pool, the water slides are even more fun! The Rocky Mountain River Race Inflatable Playset is another brilliant invention from Little Tikes. This one is suited for children 3-8 and has a climbing wall and a curved slide that makes its way into a splash pool. There is also a raised island rest area and a dry bouncing area.

Last but not least is the biggie – the ultimate play set. I came *this close* to purchasing one from Costco last year, but didn’t feel right about it. The Big Backyard by Solowave ‘Hillcrest’ Clubhouse With Tunnel looks pretty sweet and comes with everything from a climbing wall and glide rider to swings and sandbox. I’m thinking this one may just win out in the end…

Sears is offering a fabulous promo right now for those looking into purchasing various toys and play sets. Until July 18th, save 20% off ALL regular priced toys with promo code 941612912. Sweet deal that I’m going to be taking advantage of in 10, 9, 8…

Ya, 18 summers if they’ll have us! I remember some of my last summers during high school where I thought I was much too cool for family activities! But, obviously, our kids will be much sweeter than I was.
And, seriously, in the scheme of things 18 is so… few. I love your idea of making the most of each summer we do have. We move so much that a swing set isn’t realistic, but we have been thinking of getting something like the water slide climber thing you shared. I mean, how fun would that be?!

My daughter is 12 and my son is eight…I am SO LOVING THIS POST because it is FORCING me to be cognizant of how fleeting these summers spent with my kids are– and the best ways to make the most of them!

That 18 year thing really resonated with me too. This post is such a great reminder that I need to be more present with my kids in the summer – while they are still here hanging out with me every day!
