Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were spotted baby shopping last week. Known for splashing out on the best of the best, it was no surprise to me that this couple picked the newest and most revolutionary car seat as their baby’s first safety seat. We reported on Cybex’s new Sirona car seat last year after they won the K+J Innovation Award 2012. Cybex has really started from scratch with the design of this seat. The rear-facing Sirona distributes the force of an impact evenly over a large area – helping to protect a child’s internal organs as well as their particularly vulnerable neck, head and shoulders.
Its 360° rotation system makes it easy to put a child into the seat and take them out. Unlike other rear-facing car seats that can be rotated, it avoids using a harness when facing forwards – so reducing the risk of injuries that are associated with a child’s shoulders being held back in an accident.
Other features include; one-hand reclining; one-click installation with Isofix (which cuts the risk of incorrect installation to virtually zero); linear side-impact protection; a 10-position height adjustable headrest, and a one-pull easy-fastening harness system. The SIRONA’s seat covers are easy to remove and can be safely washed on a gentle cycle at 30°C. The seat can be used for children up to 18kg (or approximately 4 years).
The Sirona retails for £400, no news yet on when it will officially be available to purchase in North America.
