Family Travel Review: Half Moon, A RockResort, Montego Bay, Jamaica

Walk through the lobby of the Half Moon Resort in Rose Hall, Jamaica and you’ll find yourself transported back in time. Originally built in the 1950s by a group of American, British and Bermudian entrepreneurs as an escape for their families, Half Moon has a timeless elegance that is hard to find in many newer resorts today. Gorgeous whitewashed villas, suites and cottages face the aqua blue water of the Carribean Sea and are backdropped by the vivid green of the Jamaican landscape. Breathtaking is an understatement. Testament to it’s elegant appeal is the guest list which reads like a Who’s Who — Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles and most recently Prince Harry; the royals of Monaco, the Kennedys, Richard Branson and Beyonce are a just a few notables.

So what is it that draws them here? Well, with 400 perfectly manicured acres, 2 miles of pristine beach and 54 pools on the grounds, it’s not hard to feel like the resort is all yours. For those looking to escape the spotlight, or the hustle and bustle of everyday life, Half Moon is the perfect retreat. And really, who needs to escape hustle and bustle more than today’s modern family?

With fun activities for families, either as a unit or individually, Half Moon has thought of everything. Mom and Dad can get out to golf on the 18-Hole championship golf course, while the kids play at Anancy Children’s Village. Later, mom can find her zen at The Fern Tree Spa, Jamaica’s largest and perhaps most beautiful spa, while Dad and the kids go riding at the Equestrian Centre. The whole family can then enjoy a game of tennis, before taking a dip in one of the many pools, and then heading off for a gourmet meal. Phew! And that’s just an example for one day.

The possibilities are endless. After some alone time with your spouse, you could come back to the Anancy Children’s Village to find your children at any one of the above activities. Are they at the Dolphin Lagoon? Mini-golfing? At the stables? Wherever they are, you know they’re having a fantastic time. Hmmm, maybe you should pick them up later and go enjoy a little more alone time.

Try sailing, go shopping, have a couples massage, or go horseback riding on the beach. Maybe all you feel like doing is lying poolside with a cold drink? You can do everything or nothing at all and still get the most out of your time here.

Finally, one of the best features of Half Moon is it’s proximity to the airport. Conveniently located just 15 minutes from Montego Bay International Airport, you’ll be able to start your vacation almost immediately upon arrival.

Each day at Half Moon holds the promise of perfection. From exemplary service and amenities, to delectable dining and luxurious surroundings, Half Moon is a winter getaway like no other.
