July and August are the most popular months for family reunions. The weather is ideal, many people have extended time off work and it is a great time to get everyone together. If you have a very large family with people spread out across various states and provinces, it can be hard to rally everyone together, especially for one specific day.
When I was a little girl growing up, family reunions were an all-summer-long event. My grandparents have a large cottage close to the beach where they would spend many of their weeks and weekends. There was enough space for a couple of families to stay the night if they chose and plenty of room inside and out for the kids to run around. It was one of my favorite places to go and always a hub of activity with family coming in and out, visiting, dining, playing and swimming.
Buying a cottage may not be the most affordable option for many, but there are definitely quite a few are unique ways to throw a reunion in a both a similar or completely different way.
This is my favorite way to get friends and families together. I am actually in the process of planning out a summer getaway with a couple of my friends and our children and after pricing out resorts, hotels, cottage and home rentals we found that home rentals offer affordability, convenience and the most bang for your buck.
Cruising has become a family affair more so over the past decade then ever before. Most of the well-known cruise lines are great for multi-generational families, because they offer activities and services suitable to kids and adults of all ages. A couple of the lines even cater to babies from the ages of 6 months and up. Not only is this a great way to throw a family reunion, it doubles as a great customizable vacation. 7-10 day cruises are also a wonderful way to discover more than one location, but if you are short on time there are 2, 3, 4 and 5 day cruises also available.
Yes, yes a picnic! If you live in the city or the country, chances are you have a large park or beach nearby. These are great locations to throw a reunion because the kids can run around, everyone can dine al fresco and the location is very laid back, low key and relaxed. No one is pressured to stay for hours and you can come and go as you please.
Of course you can always rent a hall and hire a caterer for your next reunion, but really now, how much fun would that be?
What are some of your favorite ways to host or attend a family reunion?
