New York City is definitely not lacking in the hotel department. Whether you are looking for something luxurious or budget-friendly, the Big Apple is sure to provide something for everyone, however I recently came across the most charming hotel in the heart of Times Square. I didn’t think it was possible to feel ‘at home’ in the middle of one of the busiest areas in the city, but Casablanca Hotel proved me wrong.
This quaint little hotel owned by the Library Hotel Collection (previously known as HKHotels) is one of the most popular boutique hotels in NYC and ranked #1 on TripAdvisor. After staying at the establishment I can most definitely see why. Upon entering the hotel, I was immediately greeted by the doorman and the front desk staff who went over and above to help me and the other guests at the hotel. The lobby is very small, but charming featuring beautiful Moroccan touches which can be found throughout the hotel.
TIP: The elevators are quite small, so if you have a larger family and a stroller, you may have to take a couple of trips up.
We stayed in the Mini Suite with 2 Double Beds and a sofa bed, which provided more space then the hotels I usually stay at in the city. When you walk in, you are immediately transported into Morocco, it really does feel as though you are in the Casablanca Movie (which just happens to be one of my favorite films by the way). There are wooden shutters and rattan details throughout the room. The 4 piece bathroom is located just off the living area and although it is small, it was sufficient for us.
As I was in the city for business, I really appreciated the separate desk as I was able to get some work done without worrying about disturbing anyone.
The beds are very comfortable and had down blankets. I asked the front desk about alternatives as there are many people who are allergic to down and they confirmed that alternative non-down fleece blankets were available upon request.
One of the concerns I had about this hotel was the noise level. Not only did we hear absolutely nothing from the street, the guests were quiet as well and I heard less here than I had at several well-known chain hotels.
I can’t even tell you how much I loved these Do Not Disturb Signs.
One of the greatest perks about the Casablanca Hotel is the value. For a very affordable rate, you are provided with accommodations, a complimentary breakfast in Rick’s Cafe and an evening snack “Wine and Cheese” (or meal depending on your appetite) consisting of wine, cheese, crackers, veggies, dips, fruits and other goodies between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The lounge is relaxing and the atmosphere is warm and hospitable. I almost missed one of my appointments because I couldn’t get myself out of the chair. Refreshments are served here 24 hours a day.
During my breakfast on the second day, I chatted with one of the guests. She was traveling with her family from California and said that she had been coming to Casablanca for 5 years straight. Her husband and their three children “wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else” because where can you find such service and additional services for such an affordable price.
Again, notice all the amazing decor touches? I did not want to leave!
The entire concept of this hotel is just brilliant and for families, the customer service, complimentary are priceless:
- Free High Speed Wireless Internet
- Complimentary continental breakfast
- Complimentary refreshments in our clubroom
- Wine & cheese receptions evenings from 5pm-8pm
- Free bottled water, turn down service
- Free health club passes and more
If you are in the city, looking for a place to stay, I wholeheartedly recommend the Casablanca Hotel. Ranking #1 in New York City with over 2,089 reviews, is pretty impressive considering the options and after experiencing the hotel myself I agree with the ranking completely.
