Chapters is one of my favorite Canadian franchises – especially when there is a Starbucks attached which there is 90% of the time. Surrounded by books, I’m in my comfort zone. Yes, I enjoy the iPad and electronic e-readers like my Kindle, but nothing will ever substitute a good ol’ paper book for me. I have bookshelves upon bookshelves in our living room, office and den and am always looking for new hardbound and paperback books to add to my collection.
Indigo/Chapters is my personal favorite book store especially since they introduced Plum Rewards as I can now earn points towards discounts on books and gifts. After grabbing a cuppa, I like to sit down with a book and watch my kids play and have a ball in the Indigo Kids! section. They are also stroller friendly, so I can wheel my 7 month old through the aisles without any trouble.
We visited our local Indigo Kids! a couple of weeks ago and made a girl’s (and little boy) day out of it. We even sat in a tea cup!
Played with the trains and drew pretty pictures.
We also made it a point to pick up a couple of gifts for my daughter’s friend who turns 6 years-old next week. The nice thing about Indigo Kids! is that they sell more than just books. Craft kits, dolls, toys, activity books, you name it they had it.
We settled on the complete Little Miss book set (who doesn’t remember that from their childhood?) and a Melissa & Doug Reusable Sticker Pad.
I don’t know why I was unaware of this, but Indigo Kids! offers a free service where they gift wrap your purchases for you. I guess I just assumed there was a fee as I know they charge $4.95 for this service when you purchase online. With three kids in tow, it was nice to have this service. We were able to shop and had our gifts wrapped up all at the same store. No fiddling for mama!
After all was said and done, I was able to pick up a couple of books for myself and treated the kids to a couple of mini cherry pies from Starbucks. Have you ever had one of those treats? If not, I highly recommend and remarkably there is no mess!
For great gifting ideas, definitely check out your nearest Indigo. Not every location provides the full Indigo Kids experience and services, but if you visit Chapters.com they have a list of the individual shops across Canada that do. It also makes for a fun day out with the kiddos!
