J.K. Rowling Pens A New Book – Will The Adult Novel Be As Popular As Potter?

It’s been five years since J.K. Rowling released the seventh and final chapter of the Harry Potter series. Now, much to the delight of parents everywhere, who have enjoyed reading her brilliant stories to their children, the British author will be releasing a brand new novel, for grownups!

Little, Brown in the United States and Britain announced on Thursday that the famous author has an agreement to publish her very first adult novel. Rowling commented on the news in a statement released by the publisher saying:

“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world,” Rowling, 46, said in a statement released by Little, Brown. “The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”

There is speculation about the novel being a mystery, but nothing has been confirmed. As this book is an adult novel I’m assuming it isn’t appropriate for children. That being said, many of the young adult books that have been published have had a massive appeal amongst pre-teens and adults alike. Take Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight triology and Suzanne Collins’ “Hunger Games” trilogy as examples. Even Harry Potter, a children’s series was loved by all!

“J.K. Rowling is simply a great writer, and no matter what she applies her talents to, we will anticipate and enjoy it,” Melissa Anelli, administrator of top “Potter” fansite The Leaky Cauldron, wrote in an email to the Journal. “I’m also so intrigued by this process:

What will happen as the world’s greatest children’s/YA author navigates the new publishing landscape and publishes for a new audience?”

I guess only time will tell. It will be interesting to see what the subject matter is and whether or not it will have the same wide appeal as the Harry Potter series.
