Disney Welcomes Two New Princesses For 2012: Princess Merida & Sophia The First

Well apparently Disney’s original decision to stop making princess films wasn’t entirely accurate.

Pixar released a teaser trailer back in the summer for Brave, a movie about a princess who turns the kingdom’s world upside down when she decides to go against the grain by ignoring their customs. Full of sass and bravery, Princess Merida is quite different from the princesses we are so used to seeing.

Brave hits theaters on June 22, 2012 and you better believe my girls and I will be first in line at the theaters!

The second Disney Princess is actually a preschooler. According to Disney GM, Sofia will have “plenty of pretty dresses and sparkly shoes,” but “what makes a real princess is what’s inside, not what’s outside.” I think I am liking this new direction. Preschool Princess and Sassy Courageous Princess.

Hmm.. very interesting. What are your thoughts?

Looks like the original article was wrong. Disney never intended to stop making princess movies. The article that you liked to sites this as an updated source: https://www.facebook.com/Disney/posts/178092605539974 The link is dated about the same time as the original article.
