Holiday Movies For Families ~ The New Theatrical Releases & Flicks For Kids

With the lack of sufficient snow here in Ontario, there isn’t much for kids to do in terms of outdoor activities… at least where I am anyways. The ski conditions are terrible, snow tubing isn’t an option, its terribly windy so a walk is out and although the skating rink is a possible choice, the kids aren’t in the mood. Bah hum bug!

Luckily there are some great family movies that are out this week. Check your local theatre for times and listings, but the following flicks are out in most theatres across America.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked!

The Chipmunks are a holiday tradition in our family. Every single year, we are either listening to their mind-numbing delightful holiday CD which my husband and darling children just can’t get enough of, or we are watching one of their latest movies which are always a big hit with everyone. This year, they have released a third addition to their growing franchise titled – Chipwrecked.

In the latest edition, Alvin, the Chipmunks and Chipettes take a trip on the new Carnival luxury cruise ship and become ‘chipwrecked’ on a remote island. As they try making their way home they realize that their island isn’t as deserted as they once thought.

We Bought A Zoo starring Matt Damon and Scarlett Johannsson

This heartfelt movie is based on a true story. A story about a single father who is faced with the everyday challenges of raising two young children, decides to quit his job, buys an old rural house on 18 acres that comes with a zoo. Yes, as in an actual zoo. Can’t wait to see this one!

The Adventures of Tintin

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited and nervous I am to see the film. As an avid Tintin fan (read the comics growing up), I’m excited because hey, it’s Tintin, but also scared because movies based on books are usually a hit or miss. Praying this one is a hit! Produced by Steven Spielberg, the film follows the fearless young reporter Tintin on a trail that leads him into a world of high adventure.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows

The avid reader, or an older child will surely appreciate the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams, this film follows one of the smartest men in the room Sherlock Holmes. Holmes meets new criminal mastermind Professor Moriarty who turns out to be his intellectual equal, but uses his for evil. The movie is filled with puzzles, murders and mystery.
