Moms & Makeup ~ The New ‘Cat Eye’ Look That I Dared To Try

Thanks to L’Oreal for sponsoring my post about my favorite beauty looks, tips and tricks! Check out Makeup.com for beauty advice from the experts.

It’s amazing how a little bit of makeup can transform the way you feel! I gave birth to my son a couple of months ago, so most of my clothing doesn’t fit quite right. Although I’ve been working at it, I still have some baby weight to lose. Luckily, makeup doesn’t come in sizes ;).

Although I wear very minimal makeup and usually opt for a tinted moisturizer during the day, I like to dress things up a bit when I’m going out. Over the last few years I’ve learned several different techniques and tricks, but the most recent one happens to be one of my favourites – The Cat Eye. If you have round eyes, this look elongates them making them look narrower. The beauty of the Cat Eye is you can make the look as bold or as understated as you wish depending on your mood.

To create the overall look, I started off by applying a makeup primer (my favourite is Mac’s Prep & Prime), before applying my Chanel Vitalumiere foundation. If you aren’t familiar facial primer, it is basically like a paint primer. It provides a smooth surface  or canvas for your foundation.

I wasn’t looking for a smokey eye as this was for a day look, so I applied Loreal’s HIP Crystal Shadow in 829 Darling, using the light color over the entire lid and then applying the darker in the crease. Because these colours are very neutral and soft, my eyes looked more contoured than ‘shadowed’ if that makes sense.

Next I used L’Oreal’s Lineur Intense Felt Tip Eye Liner in Carbon Black. With a very, very light hand I started just passed the middle of my eye and drew a line along my lash line, slowly getting thicker towards the end and then adding a slight flick. Then from that flick, I drew a line back to were I started thus thickening the line slightly.

For the bottom liner, I used a soft kohl pencil in black and lined my eye’s lower waterline. Then I finished off the look by using Maybelline Volum’ Express The Falsies Mascara in Blackest Black, applying heavily on the top lashes and very minimally on the bottom lashes, combing through with a lash comb at the end.

For concealer I used MAC Studio Finish and then used a dab of NARS Multiple in Orgasm on my cheeks. Any blush or concealer will work as well.

I have a rule when it comes to makeup – if you are going heavy on the eyes, go light on the lips and vice versa. Because of this, I opted for a nude lip and used L’Oreal’s Crayon Petite Automatic Lip Liner in clear and Shiseido lipstick in BE109, topping it all off with a tiny dab of L’Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss in Baby Blossom.

And there you have it! A new look that I’m digging. I’ve always admired the Brigitte Bardot look and have now adopted it as my own for the holiday season.

So Moms, treat yourself! The sky is the limit when it comes to makeup and with a little experimenting you are sure to find a look you love. We all deserve a little pampering ;).
