Boy was I ever excited when Eddie Bauer announced the launch of their kid’s outerwear collection a couple of months ago. This is the first time the outdoor outfitter has carried children’s outerwear since 2002!
I had the chance to test out the line and received a Girls’ Paradise Down Parka for my daughter to try out. Now, for the record I’ve tried my share of winter coats. Growing up in Canada with seven siblings and now with three kids of my own, I have seen my share of winter coats. Let me give it to you right off the bat – this one is incredible and beats them all out hands down.

For some reason I have always attributed weight to warmth. The heavier the coat, the warmer it is. Apparently that is not necessarily so! The Paradise Down Parka is filled with 550 fill premium European goose Down insulation, so it is toasty warm, but incredibly light. The water-repellent nylon fabric feels different from other nylons, almost like a raw silk. Because of the lack of bulk, the coat offers almost a tailored look.
There are plenty of snap pockets on this coat as well as a zip version on the sleeve. The waist is adjustable for skinnier kids or if you want to nip in the waist a bit.
The pictures here were taken 2 days ago, just before we received our first snow fall. My daughter was able to test it out during an afternoon of snow angel making and snow ball throwing and I’m happy to report she was just as toasty going out as she was coming in.
The age old problem of snow getting under your cuffs and drafts creeping in under the neck has been solved as well. Eddie Bauer has designed this coat with interior fleece snow cuffs that keep the cold out and ‘seal up’ the gap between your wrist and arm. Along with offering a stunning look, the faux-fur deep snorkel hood is nice and deep and won’t flip off in the wind.
If your kid is like mine and changes her mind and tastes like the wind, you’ll appreciate that the fur ruff is detachable.
Living in Ontario where the winters are cold and snow covered, the words “lightweight” “winter” and “coats” just don’t go. Thanks to Eddie Bauer, we are completely spoiled with this new style and won’t be going back.
Want to give their new line a try? Check out Eddie Bauer’s website for their great lineup of children’s outerwear.
*Thank you to Eddie Bauer for sending us a coat for review.*
**I’ve been receiving lots of emails in regards to my daughter’s shoes. The ones pictured are the ‘Jamie’ style from Dankso. You can view our review on the shoes here (they are her favourites!).
