Home2 Suites by Hilton In San Antonio Texas Proves To Be “Just Like Home”

by

Patsy Cline sang her heart out “beside the Alamo,” while Crockett, Bowie and Travis freely gave theirs for “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Where does such a love story exist? San Antonio, Texas. A month ago when asked to go on this trip, my first thought was, “San Antonio? Why there?” Little did I realize the wealth of its treasury in culture, history, charm and cuisine.

What a relief it was to plant my feet on solid Texas soil after a turbulent and nauseous plane ride. The San Antonio airport was a breeze to maneuver, and a quick, ten minute drive down the beaten path led us to the heart of downtown San Antonio to the beautiful, newly opened, fourteen story Home2 Suites by Hilton.

The main pulse of the new Hilton brand Home2 Suites by Hilton is, “Just like home.” While we all love the classic luxury of the other Hilton hotels, Home2 maintains an informal, active family atmosphere that acknowledges your individuality and says, “Mi casa es su casa. Feel free to be you!”

The cleverly named Oasis is a brightly colored, retro living room where you can rearrange the furniture as would best suit your family needs. It is easy to carve out a niche for yourself and play cards, or lounge like a cat in front of the great windows on the versatile, twenty-foot sofa, loaded with brightly colored pillows and two 52″ televisions at either end of the great room.

The open concept living room/dining room makes it okay to eat that bowl of cereal on the couch, just like home. The Inspired Table is open daily from 6-9am. A hot breakfast option, such as an egg sandwich, is always available, along with multiple, simpler options. Several cereals ranging from the healthy to the much loved Fruit Loops are also available, along with a variety of toppings, yogurt, muffins and toast . There is something for everyone, which makes a mother smile in her first cup of coffee of the day.

Coffee2Tea is open all day for you to grab a java on the go, or a relaxing tea after a long day.

And, just like home, you eat off real plates, with real silverware and drink out of real glasses!

Part of Home2’s effort to be authentically environmentally friendly is by not using dinnerware that quickly finds its way to the garbage. Too much waste occurs while on vacation with half-eaten meals, and enough throw-away dinnerware to fill the Grand Canyon. Home2 provides an environmentally friendly system to ease that burden of guilt; a Conserve2Preserve station where all the dishes and recyclables find a cleaner solution to a dirty problem. And finally, there is a “pantry” of snacks available for purchase at Home2Mkt. Several frozen meal options are available for you to bring back to your room to prepare or snacks, including bags of chips, candy, ice cream and drinks to appease your sweet tooth.

Home2 offers Business Services for your home office away from home. Wireless high-speed internet, computers, printers and complimentary wireless printing are available for your convenience without any additional charges. Conference rooms are also available for business meetings and smaller conventions. Tech savvy kids and parents will appreciate that every room is equipped with additional gadget accessories, including an iPod Port and MP3jack alarm clock, and the 42” television in every room has ports to hook up your X-Box or Wii.

They also have several room options available to make sure your whole family is more than comfortable on your vacation or extended stay visit. When the children were small we could stuff three of them in a queen size bed and take the other for ourselves, but now that they are almost as big, if not bigger than me, we need more space.

Home2 offers two types of guest rooms: studio suites that have two queen beds or one-bedroom suites that have one king-size bed. You can sleep six full-sized people very comfortably in their queen suites thanks to the sleeper sofa. Each one of the rooms is equipped with a sleeper sofa that has the most incredible spring mattress. Home2 has also provided a curtain room divider for privacy and separation between the sitting and sleeping area as desired. The rooms are open concept and very spacious.

Every suite has a full kitchen which includes real dinnerware, a coffee pot, dishwasher and a microwave/convection oven, along with an induction plate upon request. Home2 also provides Neutrogena body wash and shampoo in bulk hand dispensers in the shower. Just one more way they think of the tiniest detail to provide you with every comfort and service while at the same time maintaining a high level of environmental consciousness and conservancy.

Have I mentioned Home2’s commitment to being environmentally friendly? It isn’t just a facade of conservation, but something that began with the original purchase of the South Texas Building and it’s remodel over two years ago.

Doing everything they could to preserve the original structure of the building through a close relationship with the San Antonio Historical Society, Home2 by Hilton San Antonio Downtown went above and beyond the call of duty and used recycled products wherever and whenever possible, from structural materials hidden in the walls, right down to the carpet and counter-tops.

While these details are behind the scene, pointing them out to my children helps them learn to discern between those who are authentic environmental stewards and those who think it’s a nice idea. Home2 Suites by Hilton has certainly proved themselves to be the real deal, and has my full stamp of approval!

Family focused, environmentally conscious and amazingly affordable are the top three ways to describe Home2 Suites by Hilton. It is home away from home, and then some!

*A big thank you to Hilton and San Antonio Tourism for inviting and hosting Child Mode on this sponsored trip!*

Lately I have been a bit discouraged by the level of discourse on most family travel blogs — it feels like so much is written for the blogger’s interests (have to write a post as promised in return for a sponsored trip) rather than my interests as a reader. But of course the sponsored posts will always exist, so the question is how can bloggers do it BETTER? This struck me as a really great example of a sponsored post. Even without knowing whether I’ll ever make San Antonio, I found it interesting enough to actually read (rare) and it sold me on the hotel itself (even better). So just wanted to take a moment to say thanks for raising the bar.

I love San Antonio! Used to go on business…Riverwalk during this time of year is beautiful. I never thought I’d say it, but felt one of my most merriest holiday seasons strolling about the shops by the water!
