Food Friday Featuring: Creamy Banana Date Shake

My kids have been on a crazy smoothie kick over the past couple of weeks. Breakfasts have consisted of either toast and banana smoothie or hot cereal and banana smoothie. Forget the berries, my daughter specifically requests that her shake stay ‘white’, so hence the banana only. What she doesn’t realize however is that her mama has been using dates in addition to the banana to make it sweet and creamy. Luckily it doesn’t affect the color much ;).

Jamie Oliver has a recipe for a plain date shake that tastes great as well. I’ve included both versions in case you are interested in trying it out this weekend with your kiddies. If you do, be sure to let us know what you thought!

Jamie’s version:

“This milkshake is a shout out to all the date producers in California. It’s delicious and dead simple. Just chuck 20 stoned dates into a liquidizer with 250ml of milk and blitz until smooth. Add a small handful of ice cubes and a pinch of ground cinnamon and whiz again. Serve straight away in tall glasses.”

My version:

Blend 2 bananas, 2 cups of regular, soy or almond milk and 5 stoned dates in a blender with 1/4 cup of ice. Blend until smooth.
