Family Travel Review: Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort Offers Fun In The Sun For Kids
Deerfield Beach offers all the pizzazz of South Florida, along with the relaxed spirit of a small town. The Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort encapsulates the snapshot of paradise and creates a home-away-from-home for families and kids seeking summer fun (kids under 17 stay free!). An added bonus -the beach is only a little over 30 steps away!
When at the beach, looking back at the direction of the resort, one can appreciate the hotel’s recent and total renovation. The grounds are flourishing with three kinds of planted palm trees, golden dewdrop, and dwarf pomegranate.
The rooms offer a sleek and exotic design with no attention to detail having been spared. In each guestroom, coffee-colored furniture is accented in contemporary zebrawood which complements the driftwood-style tile floor. Natural light pours into the floor-to-ceiling windows. A 37″ flat-screen TV adorns the wall adjacent to the bed(s) and in the bathroom; a granite counter-top, glass shower, and rainfall shower heads round-out the spa-like theme.
Wyndham has a limited number of suites with more space to frolic in. These rooms offer extra square footage alongside an integrated living and sleeping area.
On resort grounds, you can find an outdoor, heated pool and hot tub with magnificent, ocean views. Expect to see water noodles galore! Bar service is available, too, so there is no need to venture far from the comforts of your lounge chair or dismiss your game of water Marco Polo.
It’s so easy to walk about and discover the seaside town thanks to family-friendly sidewalks and streets. One place not to miss (and just across the street) is the Deerfield Beach International Pier. Fishing is the leisurely task of the day – or night – with countless novices to expert fishers trying to land a big one. The local landmark is $1 admission for those who just want to view.
Walk along the oceanfront, brick sidewalk and if you’re lucky you can grab a bench or a spot on the sand to see an oceanfront concert at the Moonlight Melodies Concert Series on the Beach. This series of free concerts is held in front of the Main Beach Parking Lot, SE 1st Street and Ocean Way. The *performances, co-sponsored by the Deerfield Beach Cultural Committee and the City of Deerfield Beach, are held on Fridays throughout the summer. Refreshments and snacks are available for purchase. *Future and upcoming concert dates include: August 12, August 26, and September 9.
Other family ideas for things to do while at Deerfield Beach (but require transportation) are:
- Butterfly World – The first and largest butterfly park in the Western Hemisphere houses nearly 3,000 butterflies.
- Gumbo Limbo Nature Center – Explore the outdoor facility that includes large tanks for fish, turtles, and other sea life.
- Lion Country Safari – This is Florida’s only drive-thru safari and it features more than 800 animals.
- Sugar Sand Park – Enjoy an outdoor science themed water playground, baseball fields, basketball courts, and inline hockey court.
For a more refined, dining experience with ambiance – the report has two restaurants and three bars on the property. I recommend the Patio Bar & Grill for their tantalizing appetizers and fun, live music. Patio’s steak chimichurra crostini and crab cakes are simply perfect for good, small bites.
Their on-site market is the place to quickly grab a magazine, snack, or water.
My family likes to disconnect and really relax while away, but for those who thrive on routine…Around the corner from the market, and for those who need to be connected, is the 24-hr business center. Plus, complimentary high-speed internet is available in all guestrooms and public spaces. The health club is also open 24 hrs.
The Wyndham at Deerfield Beach is not only kid and parent-friendly, they are also conscious of your favorite buddies – pets. Pets under 20 pounds are allowed with a non-refundable fee of $35/day.
The resort is just 15 minutes from the Boca Raton Airport and only 30 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. Plus, parking can be handled by valet or self-park at a nearby, monitored lot. We did self-park and found it easy to just grab our car and go when we wanted to venture out.
*Thank you to the Wyndham Deerfield Beach Resort for sponsoring Child Mode during this trip!*
