Modern-twist Bring Art To The Table With Their Kidz Placemats

Forget the traditional paper placemat and crayon set! If every restaurant had one of Modern-twist’s Kidz Placemats, there would be a lot more families dining out with their kids and happier (quieter) children sitting at the tables.

These non-porous & germ-free placemats are made from a food-grade, hand silk-screened silicone. Sounds pretty cool right? I was quite eager to test them out with my kids as the entire concept seemed quite interesting, but I was concerned as to whether  the mat would rip, curl up, crease or feel ‘rough’ under my daughter’s hands. I was also curious to see whether the ink from the markers would transfer to her hands and arms while leaning on the mat during dinner.

When we took the mat out of the box I was pleasantly surprised at the silkiness, pliability and softness of the silicone and loved how it lay flat on the table. My eldest daughter was excited to start her ‘picture’ straight away and her first comment was how “nice and big” it was. The mat is generously sized measuring at 14 x 16 inches (larger than the average children’s placemat).

When coloring on silicone, you’ll notice that the finished product looks more like a watercolor painting as opposed to a brighter picture. The colors are very soft and pleasing – not harsh!

Once my daughter was finished coloring her picture, we proceeded with our dinner and she rubbed up against the mat several times – no color transfer on her arms or clothing! At the end of our meal I was able to wash off the mat to be used for round 2.

Not only are these fantastic for keeping children quiet and happy while waiting for their meals or even between meals as an afternoon activity, they are also excellent for travel as they fold up and can be toted in your purse or handbag. Eco-conscious families will appreciate that the mats are free of BPA, latex + chemicals.

In regards to pricing, you can purchase your own washable or dry-erase markers and pick up the mat separately for $18 each or as a Kidz Box for $30 (one placemat & set of 6 dry-erase markers).
