Audubon Zoo & Aquarium Are Great For A Family Getaway In New Orleans!

Have you ever thought of New Orleans as a family vacation destination? If not, you may want to consider it!

This summer guests are loving Audubon Aquarium‘s Parakeet Point. Located at the foot of world-famous Canal Street, this family friendly attraction is set against the backdrop of the Mississippi River. There are 800 birds in the exhibit and and visitors can purchase feed sticks for a dollar to feed these beautiful creatures.

Grab a streetcar and head through the beautiful Garden District and Uptown to the Audubon Zoo, one of the nation’s most beautiful zoos. Cool Zoo, their new splash park offers a fun and exciting way to beat the NOLA summer heat. Kids and adults can climb the two-story white alligator water slide or dip their toes in dancing fountains. There is even a special toddler area to keep the little ones entertained with gentle water play. Of course this is just one of the attractions offered at this world class zoo.

Another fun place to visit is the Audubon Insectarium on Canal Street. This lively new museum includes a dazzling butterfly garden showcased in one of the city’s most historic buildings. The Insectarium in itself is a unique experience sure to get people talking!

Of course, these attractions are definitely not Bourbon Street, but they are great family attractions located right in the heart of New Orleans.

Is there a NICE hotel within walking distance to these attractions: zoo, aquarium and insectarium?? Trying not to have to drive or take transportation while there. Help?

The Zoo is in residential area so it is best to stay Canal St or French Qtr hotel. You can ride the streetcar to the Zoo, walk to Aquarium & Insectarium. Here is a list of their hotel partners and some maps ;). http://www.auduboninstitute.org/visit/zoo/driving-and-parking
