Last week, the Monterey Bay Aquarium re-opened their Outer Bay galleries as The Open Sea, a new addition that brings visitors right into the heart of the ocean through transformed live exhibits, new multimedia experiences and so much more. The million-gallon Open Sea is Monterey Bay Aquarium’s largest exhibit, offering a place where sharks and tunas speed past and sea turtles swim lazily across the 90-foot window. Close-by, colorful puffins can be seen in a replica of their habitat while brilliant jelly fishes pulse through the water.
In three different galleries, visitors are carried into this vast world of deep, open water with environments of schooling fish, pulsing jellies, skilled predators such as sharks and tunas, and seasoned travelers like sea turtles and seabirds.
The Monterey Bay Aquarium is known as one of the world’s finest and has already attracted over 47 million visitors. Daily schedules and aquarium information are available online at www.montereybayaquarium.org or by calling (831) 648-4800.
