BubbleBum: The Portable & Totable Travel Booster Seat For Kids

I was introduced to the most ingenious product a few weeks ago, one that literally had me clapping my hands when I heard of the concept. Bubble Bum is an award-winning booster seat that has had the press, parents and countless publications singing it’s praises. It was even a finalist for Kind and Jugend’s 2010 International Innovation Award!

Thanks to this neat little invention, you can now transport your child’s booster by easily carrying or toting it wherever you may be headed. Weighing just one pound, this nifty seat can be carried in a backpack, purse or trunk. It even fits in your glove box!

So how does it work? BubbleBum is a blow up booster seat that has been tested and approved to both the ECE R44.04 standards and crash tested to meet the USA FMVSS213 standards. It comes rolled up in a pull cord bag and one removed can be blown up after loosening the twistable air valve. You don’t have to worry about huffing and puffing for hours to fill up this seat – it inflates very quickly and took me about 1 minute to blow up.

Once inflated you close the air valve, position the seat in your vehicle and thread the seat belt through the attached red clips on either side of the seat before buckling in the belt. If the shoulder strap lies across your child’s shoulder in the ‘red zone’ as shown in the guidebook, you must use the Shoulder Belt Positioning Clip which also comes with the BubbleBum.

The seat is suitable for ages 4-10 years old weighing between 40 and 80 lbs and measuring between 40 and 52 inches. Since my 4 year old falls within these measurements I was able to test the seat out in our vehicle. She LOVED being in a ‘big kid’ seat and loved the ‘cushiness’. Although I won’t be replacing our Britax Booster with this portable seat, I most definitely will be taking this with us on our travels. It is ideal for playdates, taxis, rental cars, holidays, trips to Grandma and Grandpa’s or for school pick-ups.

BubbleBum is now available in 19 countries around the world including the United States and just received 1st place in the Tots to Travel, Just Go Awards 2011 in the “For The Journey” category. Please note, BubbleBum has not been cleared for use in Canada yet. We use ours on trips to the USA as we are very close to the border (handy when you have extra kids piling in the car!)

You can purchase it directly through BubbleBum or through our affiliate Amazon.com for $39.99.

    Hi Nadia,
Did you buy yours online? I just tried to order one from Amazon.com and received a message that it couldn’t be shipped to Canada. Trying to get my hands on one before we leave for March Break. Thanks!

    Hi Lisa!

Aren’t they great? Unfortunately they haven’t been approved for Canada yet. I put a note at the end of my review if you look before the disclosure.

We bring ours to use on trips to the USA (cabs, cars, etc).

    Hi Yvonne,

No sadly, still not available in Canada! I do have one, but use it in the USA only. It’s a shame. I hope it gets approved soon.

I needed one last summer when a friend was visiting for a month with her son. I ordered it directly through the UK website. I never got the “can’t deliver to Canada notice”. Using the Bubble Bum was the ONLY child seat that would fit in between my two existing child seats. It worked like a charm.
