Disney Set To Open New Re-Vamped Star Tours & Launches Special Star Wars™ Weekends

May the force be with you! Disney has created a brand new 3-D attraction, that combines the power of the force with Disney Magic. Set to open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park on May 20, 2011, “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue,” is based on the Star Wars films and will use eye-popping 3-D digital filming, a dramatic musical score and motion simulator-based technology to take guests on a journey where they will be able to interact with characters and experience a whole new world. The attraction also will open at Disneyland Park in Anaheim, Calif., on June 3, 2011.

Walt Disney Imagineering teamed up with Lucasfilm, Ltd. and Industrial Light & Magic – the groundbreaking visual effects division of Lucasfilm – to bring the out-of-this-world attraction to life. The original Star Tours which has been a highlight at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios shut down in 2010 so that the Imagineers could begin working on this new attraction.

Various storylines will keep park guests on the edge of their seats as they are hurtled into multiple stories and scenarios, experiencing the various twists and turns. There will be 50+ random story combinations and some of the various locations include the icy planet of Hoth, the lush jungles of Kashyyyk and the underwater Gungan world of Naboo. And along the way guests may encounter Star Wars characters that offer to help (or hinder) their journey, including Yoda, Admiral Ackbar, Darth Vader and Boba Fett. “Skytroopers,” a legion of stormtroopers created just for the Star Tours attraction story, might even join in the chase.

Because each storyline is completely random, guests will never know where the Force will take them.

Star Tours opens at Walt Disney World on May 20, 2011, the same day the annual Star Wars Weekends event begins at Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park. Star Tours and Star Wars Weekends event activities are included in regular admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.
