Review: LeapFrog ‘Scouts ABC Garden’ App For iPhone, iPod Touch & iPad

Just last week, LeapFrog debuted ‘Scout’s ABC Garden’ a brand new app for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Since my girls are big fans of LeapFrog’s Scout and Violet plush toys, I thought this would be a fun app to try out.

‘Scout’s ABC Garden’ works in a similar way as the interactive toys. You can personalize up to 3 users on the app, so that either Scout or Violet interact with your child by name and use their favourite animal and colour throughout the games.

By teaching letters and letter sounds, Scout and Violet encourage your child to explore the alphabet in step by step in an interactive, full customizable format. Thanks to the personalization, my eldest was able to play at her own level as was my two-year-old.

You can also opt in to receive emailed reports from LeapFrog when your child completes a level and wins a trophy. For example, just today my daughter received the “My First Letter Master” award for completing an entire episode. Now the next level is a little more challenging, but once she completes that she will receive yet another trophy. Lots of fun!

My youngest isn’t as interested in the ABC aspect as she is with the interactive features. She loves to tough and trigger the fun sounds and animations like bubbles, ticklish gophers and interactive clouds. The virtual radio is another favourite of hers and she gets a huge kick out of tickling Violet’s belly.

We paid $3.99 for the ‘Scout’s ABC Garden’ app through the App Store and for all of the fabulous features, I would definitely say it’s worth the price. I especially like the fact that children of different ages can play at their own level, without losing their ‘spot’ in the game.

Now if only they could come out with apps as good as this one! It’s hard to find decent educational apps that hold my children’s attention for more than 5 minutes.
