Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea Are Expected To Reopen In April

After Disney announced that Tokyo Disneyland & DisneySea had officially closed last month due to the 9.0 earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, there wasn’t much news as to when the parks would re-open. According to a report at Nikkei.com, the operator of Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea, the Oriental Land Company, has said that they expect to reopen both parks sometime in April.

Originally, it was thought that there was little to no damage at Tokyo Disneyland, however new reports are stating that the wall of one large roller coaster has been damaged and there was some liquefaction in the parking area. Of course, all repairs will be completed before the park reopens.

I can see why April would be an important month for them to reopen. Tokyo’s Disney properties will be celebrating their 10th anniversary this month and the kick-off celebration is scheduled for to begin on April 23, 2011.

With all of the energy conservation in Tokyo, and all the energy that the theme parks use, I’d be very surprised if any of them opened up in April. I’d also be surprised if any of them were open in the summer either, when there is a 1500 megawatt shortage predicted, and old people are expected do die from the heat due to lack of air-conditioning…
