Amy Tara Koch Shares Her Top Travel Tips & Recommendations For Families

I am really excited to share this wealth of information with you! A couple of days ago, I had the opportunity to speak to style expert  and fashion aficionado Amy Tara Koch, the author of Bump It Up, trend reporter to NBC, contributer to SELF, New York Times, People’s Mom and Baby, Travel & Leisure, and many others.

As traveling season is upon many of us, this was a great opportunity to ask her a few questions on the many aspects of family travel! You can view the entire interview as well as some highlights below.

Best Tropical Destinations For Families

  • One of the greatest destinations is Miami. Affordable and you can find a great deal on hotel rooms
  • Mexico! Very family friendly, provides a lot of value
  • Puerto Rico is great, not too far away and very child-friendly
  • Turks and Caicos
  • Although not a specific destination, cruises are wonderful for families because you get to go to a few different tropical islands on the same trip. There are also lots of great deals to be found. Disney Cruise Line is a favourite

How To Keep Kids Happy & Occupied During Long Flights?

The 3 P’s: Patience, preparation and packing like a pro. Figure out which games you are going to bring. DVD players are a must-have. VTech V.Reader Animated E-Book System is an automatic ebook system, LeapFrog Leapster Explorer Learning Game System (Green) has lots of applications and is fabulous for keeping kids happy and occupied.

Knock knock and klutz, offer games specifically for travellers. Airport bingo is another great one and it isn’t an electronic toy.

Travel Organizational Tips Or Special Luggage Recommendations

Even though it is tempting, don’t pack as much as you can! Start 4-5 days before, by packing up your children’s clothes first. Lay everything out on the dining room table and organize use Ziploc bags. Keep things neat and at an arms reach when packing up your carry-on by using the Ziploc bags to carry your medicine chest, ear plugs, etc.

For clothing, moms should only pack the basics, lightweight pieces, leggings, jeans, little black dress, sundress, bangles and great accessories that will transform an outfit into different looks.

Airport Snacks

You don’t have to be a victim to horrible food. Bring things that are filling, nutritious and nonperishable. Nutri-Grain Bars, Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bars and instant cereal are great options. Cream of Wheat has a new flavor – Cinnabon Swirl that offers 100 calories, No Fat.

Mommy Must-Haves:

To charge up your electronics, laptops and other digital gadgets, the Duracell USB Charger (100 hours of juice) $74.00 is great and can be a lifesaver when traveling. If you don’t want your kids looking like they came out of a Charles Dickens Novel, after a long flight –  Tide To Go Instant Stain Remover.
