I’m heavily involved in our Women’s Ministry at church. I participate in the Prayer Shawl Ministry (we donate our completed shawls to the local hospice community, they in turn give the shawls to current patients and families that have lost love ones), Faith Community Day (our church hosts a community day with free children activities) and the whole family pitches in to help with the Thanksgiving Baskets (providing entire Thanksgiving feasts to families in need).

I am a nurse at a nursing home. My children and I go to the home on my weekends off to spend time with the people whose family’s do not visit them. I am fortunate enough to know which residents need someone to visit because i see them on a daily basis. My children love going to the nursing home and talking with the elderly and they also enjoy it because they get to see what I do for a living!
Thank you

My daughter is amazing. When I was diagnosed with cancer, my 9 year old wanted to do something special for other kids whose parents were going through treatments. She started a toy drive in the community and dropped them off at the local cancer center. She is currently involved in hockey, dance, cheer and girl scouts.

We donate food clothes and all kinds of stuff to the local food bank, childrens homes and such. Also during the last ice storm we took our chain saw and went around and help to clean up the down trees in the older peoples yards since they couldnt do it them selves

My 8 yr old daughter volunteers to teach and model social skills to children with autism, because her big brother has autism. She is incredibly patient and understanding, and finds ways to reach the kids through songs, games, and just sitting quietly beside them. She volunteers with autism sibling support groups and shares her feelings about having a brother with autism who cannnot communicate nor care for himself. She is an amazing open, loving and giving child who would probably choose to share or donate this doll if she won! Thank you for an opportunity to honor and recognize her contributions to making the world a better place for children with disabilities.

When my kids were younger, I was an assistant Boy Scout Leader; was a Girl Scout Leader as well as Cookie Manager for our district (you couldn’t see my dining room there were so many cases of cookies….wasn’t good for the waist though as we had ordered extra with hopes of selling more, temptation was always there…I bought way too many cookies that year:) I also volunteered where ever needed for both my childrens’ school classrooms….for a number of years in the not too distant past, I was a volunteer at our Church Hall…..in high school, I volunteered at Church, was a tutor in high school to fellow students….

My family is involved in our childrens schools , our church, our community group, and our emergency services group. My husband and I are on most of the commitees but our children are always going to activies with us and get involved by helping and voicing their opinions. This afternoon our family spent the day helping to set up new playground equipment at our local park. It was truly a family effort and our kids understood how much they were helping others!

jamie July 25, 2010 at 12:43 am

My daughter has donated her 100 stars everyday since 7/13 she is so proud and tells us after she is done “Whew I just donated $100 to charity!” It is really funny.

I am just happy i have a home a shelter water family. If I had million dollars I would want to spend it on the homeless and not on me. Everytime I see a homeless person I would love to give them money or water or food. One time I got inout and a person was there and i was deeply hungry but you have to give up your food and water for people who cant get any. I would always give stuff to children who need it. I love doing cancer walks and stuff. I love to help people. This is 100 percent true.

Two years ago in art class I had an idea that I wanted to help out animals, so I made an animal rights petition for people to sign, 1 thing led to another and me and 3 other friends ended up doing a donation/fundraiser for Kent Animal Shelter and we ended up raising over $300 dollars in actual money, and over $2000 dollars worth of blankets/food/toys/etc. It was a big sucess (sp) and when we delivered it we had over 30 big bags of stuff, and we got to see all the animals we were helping out. It was so much fun and it felt so good to give. If you go on the website for kent animal shelter theres a pic of four girls (im the blond one).
