GIVEAWAY: Seventh Generation Healthy Home Starter Kit

by Nadia Carriere on July 9, 2010

Although we try to live as healthily and as naturally as possible, I will not sacrifice cleanliness for the sake of a natural cleaner. If it’s natural and it works, wonderful! The thing is, I hadn’t found a chemical-free line of natural cleaners that worked as well as their chemical competitors…until now.

Seventh Generation, one of the leading names in safe and natural household and personal care products, sent me 10 of their most popular cleaners to try out a couple of months ago. I have been using them exclusively in my home for the past 2 months and I have to say that I am truly impressed with this line!

  • Disinfecting Multi-Surface Cleaner, Disinfecting Bathroom Cleaner

These are my favorite products of all. By tapping into the disinfecting powers of Thyme, Seventh Generation has created a natural formula that is affective in killing over 99.99% of all household germs, specifically: Influenza A, H1N1, Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella enteric, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli. The disinfecting cleaners can be used everywhere and anywhere, will not harm hard, non porous surfaces and works well at keeping orders at bay. In addition the the thyme, the scent has a touch of oregano mixed with just a hint of lemon, making it great for the kitchen!

  • The Disinfecting Wipes

These are super convenient option – especially with children! In our recreation room, we are forever dealing with little (and big) spills and messes. The wipes are great to have lying around for quick clean.

  • Free & Clear All- Purpose Cleaner

This is a GREAT cleaner for those who are sensitive to fragrances, dyes or masking agents. The hypo-allergenic formula is non-toxic, biodegradable and Kosher-certified. By using a Mineral-derived, alkalinity builder and plant-derived cleaning agents Seventh Generation has created a cleanser that helps to achieve target pH for enhanced cleaning performance.

  • The Toilet Bowl Cleaner

This works just as well if not better than the conventional toilet cleaner and comes packaged in the same convenient squeeze bottle. After cleaning the dreaded toilet, the scent of Emerald Cypress & Fir leaves a hint of forest freshness behind.

  • Shower Cleaner – Green Mandarin & Leaf

I am so used to feeling dizzy and nauseous after cleaning my shower. The fumes can get unbearable at times and I can only do so when the kids are out of the house. This cleaner was a welcome and oh so pleasant surprise! It cleans well, prevents soap scum buildup and can be used everyday. Most importantly, there was no fumes and I was able to leave the bathroom headache free!

As part of the Healthy Home Starter Kit, I also received the Glass and Tub & Tile Cleaners. Both worked very well and I was happy with the performance. After testing out Seventh Generation products, I am officially a convert! My 3 1/2year-old daughter loves to help me clean, however before we switched over to Seventh Generation, I would only allow her to clean with a damp rag. Now, she gets down on her knees with her Free & Clear spray bottle and loves to clean “just like mama”!

I am using more natural cleaning products and in fact just recently bought some Simple Green products and I would love to try more products.

Christy July 15, 2010 at 8:41 pm

Absolutely, and I like to buy natural products if they are on sale. Normal price – they’re just too expensive.

I’ve thought about switching. but the cost is prohibitive.

Rachel S July 15, 2010 at 10:40 pm

There are some things I haven’t tried to switch yet, but I do use natural products to clean glass, scrub tubs and unclog drains.

middy98 July 15, 2010 at 10:52 pm

In light of the oil spill debacle, I have really been trying to change my ways. I think about how I can be greener all the time! This would bring me one step closer!

Kate July 16, 2010 at 12:02 am

Natural products can be better than regular products, and are better to smell too. It does depend on the company though!!

Eric Swenton July 16, 2010 at 12:05 am

We have switched to natural cleaning products to avoid bringing chemicals into our family’s life.

brian e. July 16, 2010 at 12:05 am

Thanks for the giveaway…about 80% of our cleaning supplies are natural / green type products but we still have a few that we have found we cannot replace without seriously undermining our household cleaning.

I have considered switching to all natural cleaners but I’m always worried that things will be clean enough – but I want to try Seventh Generation to give it a chance to convince me it will be great!

Auriette July 16, 2010 at 12:46 am

I have tried a few natural products. Sometimes they work well. Sometimes they don’t perform as I would expect. Then, too, sometimes I have to buy the cheaper chemical cleaners. I feel better for my family when I’m able to use something that’s natural.

momznite July 16, 2010 at 12:49 am

I have began switching to natural cleaning products. Not only is it environmentally important to me, but I also have three small children and one more on the way so it is important to keep my family as safe as possible as well.

I’ve thought about it but the cost is so high compared to what I already buy. I shop sales and use coupons so i’m always trying to save money.

shel July 16, 2010 at 2:49 am

I have been trying to purchase more eco-friendly products not only to save the environment but because they’re so much better for my family and pets.
