Girl Scouts Smile! Camp Puts Smiles On The Faces Of Children With Special Needs

For over 35 years, Girl Scouts Smile Camp has been putting smiles on the faces of elementary-age children with disabilities for over 35 years. Kids ages 5-11 years-old who live with cerebral palsy, TMH, EMH (trainable mental handicaps and educable mental handicaps), hearing and visual impairments are invited to attend this week-long day camp.

This year the Smile Camp will take place at the Girl Scouts state of the art North Fork Leadership Center* in Middleburg, Florida where activities are planned and staffed by 9-12th grade Girl Scouts, who are invited to participate as counselors in this outdoor experience with special needs campers.

Counselors receive hands-on, intensive training and are paired to work one-to-one with a camper for the week. As counselors, girls help campers experience swimming, play games, participate in sing-a-longs, greet special guests, and stretch their artistic skills. Counselors provide physical assistance, gentle encouragement and one-on-one attention to the campers. They gain leadership experience and the love and respect of these special children.

Campers can attend this week of fun for a  minimal fee, which includes lunch, snacks, and transportation to and from camp.
