Family Camera Review: Nikon CoolPix L110 Camera

Although I adore my DSLR camera and use it for most shots, a point-and-shoot camera is a must-have – especially with a family! The Nikon COOLPIX L110 has been wonderful for quick shots and when daddy wants to use the camera. The 15x Optical Zoom captures most scenes and portraits with ease without having to change and exchange lenses. The NIKKOR glass lens covers a focal length from a wide 28mm to 420mm super-telephoto – amazing!

For soccer games, the Sport Continuous Mode is an excellent feature that allows you to capture all the intense and high-action plays from the stands and sidelines without compromising quality or accuracy.  You can shoot as many as 20 photos within a rapid 11.1 frames per second to capture all the action! Portrait, Landscape, Night Portrait, Night Landscape, Close-up, or Backlight are the additional scenes available that help you to achieve the proper shot in any light.

The Auto Mode simplifies everything and works wonderfully. If you don’t want to fiddle around with the settings, this is an excellent go-to option. Just turn on the camera and go to town and in addition with Nikon’s exclusive Smart Portrait System, you have the perfect shot!

Now the only thing I have to mention is the flash. I am used to pressing a button to release the flash however with the Nikon CoolPix 1100, you have to lift it up. This wasn’t a problem however as most cameras release the flash automatically, this was a bit of a surprise to me.

Other features include:

* 12.1-megapixel resolution
* 3.0-inch high-resolution 460,000-dot Clear Colour Display LCD
* HD movie (720p) with Optical Zoom and Auto Focus
* 5-way VR Image Stabilization System and Smart Portrait System
* Available in black and red

The biggest bonus for us was the High-Definition movie recording feature. The less we have to carry on a trip, the better and having the video camera built into the camera was a lifesaver! This movie mode allows up to shoot video at HD 720p (1280 x 720) with stereo sound. The HDMI connectivity enables playback on HD-compatible TVs for easy viewing. You can view a video I shot with the Nikon CoolPix here.

All in all, this is a great camera especially now that summer has arrived. The power-efficiency is excellent as it allows you to shoot up to seven hours of HD video or take approximately 840 still images with a set of four AA Energizer®Ultimate Lithium batteries, included with the camera. If you want a camera that is easy to use and that provides good results and great pictures, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the Nikon CoolPix L1100!

Available in both black and red camera retails for $279.95 however Amazon.com is currently selling it for $260.08.
