Madonna & Lourdes Leon Attend Bent On Learning Event

April 30, 2010 by admin 2 Comments

Madonna and her 13-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon attended the Bent on Learning benefit, sponsored by Alice + Olivia, Wednesday night (April 28) in New York City. Lourdes donned an interesting look with an embellished shift dress, leather jacket ripped nylons and boots. I wonder if any of the pieces are from her new Material Girl line?

Other guests in attendance included Gwyneth Paltrow, Krysten Ritter, Hilary Rhoda and Melissa George.

Yogi Eddie Stern, a member of Bent on Learning’s board of directors introduced the concept of bringing yoga instruction to public schools to many of the A-listers who attended the event, which was held at The Puck Building in Soho.

The evening included a short cocktail reception followed by a dinner and many of the celebrities appeared to be very supportive of the idea.

“Yoga keeps me centered,” cooed Ritter, whose workout routine also includes spinning. “It’s great for kids to learn, especially New York City kids.” WWD reported.

“Yoga is a place where you can connect with mind, body and spirit on a mat,” added Donna Karan. “I started it when I was 18 and that was three years ago,” she deadpanned.

Towards the night’s end, Sean Lennon’s band, “The Ghost of the Saber Toothed Tiger” performed a set.

I’m not a fan of plastic toys so when I saw these soft guitars I was thrilled!

Little rock stars can “Rock On” with these puffy electric style guitars made from super soft cotton – NO batteries needed which means no loud noise and lots of fun imaginative play!

The unisex version has a rockin’ pirate print with skulls and cross bones on brown and cream fabric. There is gold lame trim and a sewn in, velcro-close shoulder strap.

Girly girls can turn up the volume with the Floral Print Style in pinks, creams and silver lame trim.

Both guitars are designed in Denmark and measure 23.5″ x 9″ x 2″.

RECALL: BabyGap Marrakesh & Gap Outlet Baby One-Piece Bathing Suits Due To Strangulation Hazard

by admin 1 Comment

Health Canada, Gap Inc., and the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (US CPSC) put out a joint recall today for babyGap Marrakesh and Gap Outlet Baby One-piece Bathing Suits due to a strangulation hazard. The swimsuits are available in infant sizes up to 24 months, and are made of a synthetic knit stretch fabric of polyester and spandex.

Approximately 460 of the recalled babyGap swimsuit and 23 of the recalled Gap Outlet swimsuit were sold in Canada. 5045 of the babyGap and 900 of the Gap Outlet swimsuits were sold in the United States and an additional 636 of the babyGap swimsuits were also sold online at www.gap.com (only in the United States).

The babyGap Marrakesh swimsuit is the blue and white print with style number 706260 and was sold from February 2010 to April 2010.

Gap Outlet baby one-piece swimsuit is the red and white print with style number 700452  and was sold from March 2010 to April 2010.

(Style numbers can be found on the inner side seam of each swimsuit.)

The bathing suits have halter straps and were manufactured too short which causes the plastic ring located at the neck of the swimsuit to press against the child’s throat and obstruct the airway, thus posing a strangulation hazard.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled swimsuits and return them to any babyGap, GapKids, Gap, or Gap Outlet store for a full refund. Consumers who return the swimsuits will receive a 20% off coupon for a regular-priced item.

If the swimsuit was purchased online, consumers are asked to contact Gap to return it by mail.

For more information, consumers may contact Gap toll-free at 1-888-747-3704 between 9AM and 9PM ET Monday to Friday, and between 12PM and 7PM ET on Saturdays.

Consumers may also e-mail Gap at custserv@gap.com or visit the Gap website.

The release by the US CPSC can be viewed on the  Commission’s website.

Food Friday Featuring: Pasta & Meatballs From Jamie Oliver

by admin 1 Comment

Our Friday Food Feature comes courtesy of Jamie Oliver. Be sure to visit his website for more fun and healthy recipes for your family!

serves 4-6
Ingredients:

• 4 sprigs of fresh rosemary
• 12 cream or plain crackers such as Jacob’s
• 2 heaped teaspoons Dijon mustard
• 1 pound good quality ground beef, pork or a mixture of the two
• 1 heaped tablespoon dried oregano
• 1 large egg, preferably free range or organic
• Sea salt, and freshly ground black pepper
• Olive oil
• A small bunch of fresh basil
• 1 medium onion
• 2 cloves of garlic
• ½ a fresh or dried red chile
• 2 x 14-ounce cans of diced tomatoes
• 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
• 1 pound dried spaghetti or penne
• Parmesan cheese for grating

To make your meatballs
Pick the rosemary leave off the woody stalks and finely chop them. Wrap the crackers in a kitchen town and smash up until fine, breaking up any big bits with your hands. Add to the bowl with mustard, ground meat, chopped rosemary and oregano. Crack in the egg and add a good pinch of salt and pepper. With clean hands, scrunch and mix up well. Divide into 4 large balls. With wet hands, divide each ball into 6 and roll into little meatballs—you should end up with 24. Drizzle them with olive oil and jiggle them about so they all get coated. Put them on a place, cover and place in the refrigerator until needed.

To cook your pasta, meatballs, and sauce
Pick the basil leaves, keeping any smaller ones to one side for later. Peel and finely chop the onion and the garlic. Finely slice the chile. Put a large pan of salted water on to boil. Next, heat a large fryng pan on a medium heat and add 2 lugs of olive oil. Add your onion to the frying pan and stir around for 7 minutes or until softened and lightly golden. Then add your garlic and chile, and as soon as they start to get some color add the large basil leaves. Add the tomatoes and the balsamic vinegar. Bring to the boil and season to taste. Meanwhile, heat another large frying pan and add a lug of olive oil and your meatballs. Stir them around and cook for 8 -10 minutes until golden (check they’re cooked by opening one up. There should be no sign of pink. Add the meatballs to the sauce and simmer until the past is ready, then remove from the heat. Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions.

To serve your meatballs

Saving some of the cooking water, drain the pasta in a colander. Return the pasta to the pan. Spoon half the tomato sauce into the pasta, adding a little splash of your reserved water to loosen. Serve on a large platter or in separate bowls, with the rest of the sauce and meatballs on top. Sprinkle over the small basil leaves and some grated Parmesan.
