Preview: Marithé + François Girbaud Kids Spring – Summer 2010 Collection

Mirroring the Marithé+François Girbaud collection for adults, this new collection is a trailblazing, contemporary casual style for girls and boys ages 4 to 16 years old. The China Blue line features coloured stripes, powdered faded grey, pale blue with bright red, denim indigo, white and large prints.

The skirts, dresses and blouses are diaphanous, complementing the flowing, heavy jackets and cardigans, and structured Capri pants. Cotton/linen striped culottes contrast with the lightweight ramie blouses. The denim is bleached, which is summery in itself.

The materials are not quite what they look like: the prince-of-wales check looks solid, satin and ramie intertwine and the stretch stitch feels like a second skin. Mosaic prints on voile and a gigantic knitted flower add a feminine touch to the theme.

Sprinklings of flowers, dip-dye stains, printed madras dresses with cotton poplin, ramie cotton shorts combine with D‑ring dresses and skirts are infused with pinks, whites and vanilla to soften the sharp red.

Weightless white blouses, skirts and dresses are created using ultra-supple Lyocell material which is made up with wood-pulp cellulose and cotton. Grey chambray, tonic light blue, aniseed yellow, flowing petticoats, very clean stretch mesh dresses, capri pants, and details including English embroidery, organza and embroidered sequin.

For the boys:

The lines are devoid of predefined rules – just like the Marithé+François Girbaud collection for men. The volumes are therefore groundbreaking and the silhouettes fittingly up-to-the-minute. The looks hover between city and vintage.

Clean denims provide the city ambience. They are tight-fitting and go with finely-lined shirts. The china blue and black tones contrast with a range of pale blues, shiny red and electric blues. The more vintage garments play host to scorched effects, careful fading and aged T-shirts sporting statements.

The dyed woven square from the adult collection shines on the lightweight Bermuda shorts, lining the jackets and as an accessory. Pure white, brick and dark grey combine with the looks.
