Scott Baio and his wife Renee went through a horrific health scare after their daughter Bailey was born. Testing positive for G-A-1, an organic acidemia metabolic disorder, Bailey went through a series of tests only to find out weeks later that she did NOT in fact have the disorder.
Renee took this experience as a sign and started up the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation to raise awareness, funding and to help as well as aid other families going through the same difficulties as they had.
This amazing mama and her hunky hubby Scott, have teamed up with one of our favorite companies, Ooh! La, La! Couture, for an exciting project to be revealed within the next couple of weeks. In an exclusive interview with Child Mode, Renee spoke about the need for comprehensive newborn screening, the Bailey Baio Angel Foundation, her daughter Bailey and an exciting birthday event for Mr. Scott Baio!
One of my favorite companies, Hotslings, was one of the most well-known makers of Infant Carriers for over 7 years. Recently, they made a sad announcement, stating that they would be closing their business due to various factors including the recession, a bad supplier that caused a 9 months delay in receiving their products – costing them over half a million dollars in sales, and of course, the recent CPSC warnings. Although the CPSC recalled a completely different baby sling brand, it caused quite a bit of damage in the baby carrier world.
Danielle Friedland, entrepreneur, mom of two and the founder of Celebrity Baby Blog, put together a beautiful tribute to this company that was loved by so many. You can follow Danielle on her website daniellefriedland.com or through twitter @that_danielle.
“Ladybug”, the song used in this tribute is courtesy of the band Rabbit! and Ryan Marshall of PacingthePanicRoom.blogspot.com or @ThePanicRoom on Twitter. The new album Do Fun Stuff Volume 1, is their very first release of kids music. In partnership with PRISMS, The Panic Room will be raising awareness about SMS and benefiting the foundation through sales of this new CD.
Have you ever tried Stroopwafels? They are delectable, crispy and have just the right touch of sweetness. When I was pregnant with my first daughter, I ate these babies by the package! Jamie Oliver has put together a recipe that looks positively divine, using these delicious biscuits.
dessert recipes | serves 4
• 8 stroopwafels (Dutch caramel waffle biscuits)
• Butter
• 4 bananas, split lengthways, then halved
• 3 tbsp maple syrup, plus extra
• Greek yoghurt or ice cream, to serve
In a very low oven, heat the stroopwafels. Place a frying pan on a high heat, add a good knob of butter and cook till it foams, then add the bananas and maple syrup and cook for 2 mins or until golden. Serve the warm waffles with bananas and an extra drizzle of maple syrup, and a spoonful of Greek yoghurt for breakfast, or ice cream as a pudding.

Everyone’s favorite North Pole Experience is an incredible adventure in Phoenix, Arizona for families spending their holidays or visiting the area during the Fall and Winter season, and it was announced yesterday that the completion of improvements to Santa’s Workshop, will further enhance the magical Christmas destination that children dream of.
Located in the quaint White Mountains ski village of Greer, Ariz., The North Pole Experience re-opens Friday, November 26, offering families a hands-on adventure working with Santa and his elves.
New improvements to the North Pole Experience include:
Fog curling around the massive 147-year-old workshop entrance doors
Wall-mounted, oversized gears with sound effects to enhance the toy workshop theme
Toy conveyor belts transporting the season’s most popular toys to be loaded in Santa’s sleigh
A second Candy Cane Express trolley transporting families from Molly Butler Lodge to Santa’s Workshop as a result of strong ticket demand
An enclosed, heated waiting area at the lodge for guests checking in, and for those enjoying the scrumptious dinner buffet or breakfast with Santa
The 2010 North Pole Experience runs from November 26, 2010 through January 2, 2011. Due to the recent improvements, the explosion of positive reviews online, and the increase in Arizona residents choosing to save money by vacationing closer to home, ticket sales are expected to sell out quickly – in fact, the holiday event is already 53% percent sold out for the 2010 season.
We recently reviewed the iPad and found it to be an excellent piece of technology for children. Toymaker, DANO2, seems to agree with our findings, as they have recently created an app that teaches children how to write by zooming airplanes around flight plans as comedian Stephen Kramer Glickman provides the sounds and amusing commentary. Many savvy toddlers are already fans of this app, which is said to be piloted by select kindergarteners when they return to school this fall.
Little Sky Writers TM, is the first game created by DANO2. It teaches kids the correct way to write the letters of the alphabet by having them guide a small airplane through a series of flight paths with their finger. As the children learn to write, Roger the control tower (voiced by comedian and NickelodeonTM star, Stephen Kramer Glickman) provides amusing commentary along the way. The game is so intuitive and fun that it reaches children long before a traditional workbook can.
This app was designed with the input of several veteran Kindergarten teachers and educational professionals. One of the key consultants, Diane Owen, a kindergarten teacher in Santa Maria, CA has been training teachers, and teaching kids how to write their ABC’s for the past 30 years, and looks forward to using what she describes as her “dream program for hands-on & kinesthetic learners” to start this school year off.
Owen is piloting the program with one iPad in her classroom this fall, however has already begun the process of grant writing to expand the number of devices in the classroom. She feels it is better for the students, and more affordable than traditional computers “my students are low income; many do not have the same access to technology as their higher-income counterparts. With this grant, not only will they learn how to write their letters properly, but they will also gain a crucial confidence with technology at an early age.”
Little Sky Writers for the iPad is now available for sale in the iTunes store. A version for the iPhone is coming soon.
